With sports betting recently becoming legal in the United States, we’ve partnered with the experts from Total Sports Picks to share their best NFL bets each week this season.
Here’s the Total Sports Picks team’s Week 6 preview. We’ve maintained a 43-35 record through the first three weeks of the season and we’ll be looking for another big performance this Sunday.
Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs (1:00pm ET)
The Texans offense was firing on all cylinders in Week 5 as they put up 53 points at home against the Falcons. Deshaun Watson threw five touchdowns, three of them to Will Fuller V as the Texans won the game by 21 points. The Texans offense has been putting up solid numbers this season, averaging over 26 points per game, good for ninth in the league.
The Chiefs offense was underwhelming against the Colts on Sunday night, putting up just 10 points and losing by six to a rampant Colts running game. They start as 8 point favorites at home but there are some injury concerns over reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes and star receiver Sammy Watkins.
The Texans have been pretty lackluster against strong opponents recently. In their last 10 games as a touchdown underdog or more, they are 1-9 straight up and 3-7 against the spread. On the contrary, the Chiefs are 8-1 straight up and 4-5 ATS in their last nine when favored by a touchdown or more.
Tough game to call here, the Chiefs looked underwhelming against the Colts on Sunday night but will be going up against a much weaker defense in the Texans this Sunday. With two of the more dynamic offenses going at it here we think it could be a shootout. Back the over.
Pick: Total OVER 55.5 (-110 at DraftKings)
San Francisco 49ers at Los Angeles Rams (4:05pm ET)
Are the 49ers for real? Their performance against the Browns on Monday night football in Week 5 definitely suggests so. They were fantastic on the back of their bye-week, pounding the Browns into the ground with their run game as they rushed for a ridiculous 275 yards on 40 attempts and claimed a 28 point win.
The Rams were disappointing on Thursday night football in Week 5 as they went down to the Seahawks by one point. It was their second loss on the spin after allowing 55 points to the Buccaneers in Week 4. There are still massive concerns over the reliability of QB Jared Goff, who has thrown four interceptions in the last two games.
The 49ers have struggled against NFC West opponents since Kyle Shanahan took over as head coach. In that span, they are 2-10 straight up against divisional opponents. On the contrary, the Rams are 10-3 straight up against divisional opponents in that period.
Pick: Los Angeles Rams -4 (-110 at DraftKings)
Pittsburgh Steelers at Los Angeles Chargers (8:20pm ET)
The Steelers were dealt a blow in Week 5 as quarterback Mason Rudolph went down with a concussion. He’ll likely be out again for the Sunday night clash in LA against the Chargers, leaving third string Delvin Hodges under centre. The Steelers offense has struggled so far this season, putting up just 19.8 points in the game, which is in the bottom 10 in the NFL.
The Chargers are in the mix in the AFC West at 2-3 but will need to take advantage of this game at home against a severely depleted opponent. They were at home against Denver in Week 5 and couldn’t get the job done, going down by 7 points.
Since Mike Tomlin took over as head coach for the Steelers, they are just 1-6 straight up in games played on the West Coast and have another tough matchup this weekend. The Chargers are just 1-3-1 against the spread this year but we like them at home this weekend.
The current line sits at just 6.5 in favor of the Chargers with some indecision still hanging over the Steelers starting quarterback. Back the Chargers offense to be back to full flight this week with Melvin Gordon, Austin Ekeler and Keenan Allen all in good health.
Pick: Los Angeles Chargers -6.5 (-110 at DraftKings)
