Ito Smith, RB, Atlanta Falcons

Smith had just 19 yards on five carries Sunday against the Houston Texans, but he added six receptions for 45 yards as Devonta Freeman only played eight more snaps in the game (41-33). Over the last two games, Smith has eight receptions on 10 targets to go with seven carries and a rushing score.

Freeman had a receiving touchdown against Houston, and he has at least three catches in every game this season. But he has also averaged less than 2.8 yards per carry in four of five games, while Smith has averaged over five yards per carry in a game three times.

Even as part of a backfield split, Smith gets a nice matchup against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6. The Los Angeles Rams (Week 7) and Seattle Seahawks (Week 8) also entered Week 5 in the bottom half of the league against running backs (Yahoo! scoring).

Smith is worth adding and deploying for Week 6 as a flex option in 12 and 14-team leagues, and the way he’s trending he’ll be a flex option in Week 7 and Week 8 as well. If the snap split narrows, or Freeman goes down to an injury, the second-year man out of Southern Miss has RB2 potential.
