Kalen Ballage, RB, Miami Dolphins
With Kenyan Drake (shoulder) banged up and Frank Gore leaving Sunday’s game with what looked like a pretty severe foot/ankle injury, Ballage stepped in with 123 yards on 12 carries. Much of that yardage came on a 75-yard touchdown run to open the second half, but the rookie out of Arizona State may now have an opportunity in front of him.
Drake has been a non-factor for most of the season, and Gore seems sure to miss the final two games. The Dolphins’ playoff hopes are now hanging by a thread after Sunday’s loss, if they exist at all, so getting a look at Ballage in a lead role could be on the radar.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are top-10 in the league against running backs this year (ESPN PPR scoring), but the defense’s effort level will be an open question as the team plays out a disappointing season and Ballage could exploit that in Week 16.
Ballage is a fairly speculative add in most fantasy leagues looking toward the new week, with a lot to be determined by the results of Gore’s MRI on Monday. But in deeper leagues, with little competition for waiver claims at this point in the season, Ballage is on the radar. If you’re in a dynasty league, here’s a sneaky pickup.
