Mike Williams, WR, Los Angeles Chargers

With Keenan Allen a non-factor after suffering an early hip injury last Thursday night against the Kansas City Chiefs, Williams stepped up with seven catches (on nine targets) for 76 yards and two touchdowns along with a rushing score and two-point conversion to boot.

Allen is week-to-week with a hip pointer, and with extra time between games there’s a chance he doesn’t miss any time. But if he is out or at all limited, Williams showed himself as a capable top target for Philip Rivers.

Week 16 brings a suffocating matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, who entered Week 15 allowing the fourth-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers (ESPN PPR scoring). But Buccaneers’ wide receiver Mike Evans went for 121 yards against them on Sunday, spurred by a 64-yard play, and Williams is similarly built.

If Week 17 matters in your league, be aware of a decent matchup for Williams against the Denver Broncos. But strictly for Week 16, even in a tough matchup, he has appeal as a WR3/WR4 whether Allen plays or not.
