Matt Bryant, K, Atlanta Falcons

Bryant had not kicked since Week 6 due to a hamstring injury, but he returned and delivered four field goals (41, 45, 53 and 21 yards) with one extra point against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Now back in place with a good offense to give him opportunities, Bryant is a rare (if not unprecedented) kicker for our early must-add list (h/t to Paul Charchian of League Safe and Fanball).

As winter sets in in November and December, weather has an effect on kicking and on decisions coaches make about field goal attempts. From here on out Bryant has two home games (Week 13-Baltimore Ravens, Week 15-Arizona Cardinals), which are of course indoors, an indoor road game (Week 12-New Orleans Saints) and two warm weather outdoor games (Week 16-Carolina Panthers, Week 17-Tampa Bay Buccaneers). Only Week 14 against the Green Bay Packers on the road has any real threat of cold weather/winter conditions.

It’s usually not worth spending a lot of intellectual capital on which kicker to add off the waiver wire, even if you’re even looking somewhere beyond a bye week replacement. But Bryant was dropped in droves when he was injured, and he may well be the highest scoring fantasy kicker from here on out this year.
