Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers
Newton didn’t start his first game back with the Panthers on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. But he made the most of the action he saw, with a passing touchdown and a rushing score in relief of P.J. Walker.
Newton should start for Carolina in Week 11, against the Washington Football Team and former Panthers head coach Ron Rivera. Washington entered Week 10 allowing the most fantasy points to quarterbacks, before a stronger showing against Tom Brady (220 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions) on Sunday. But it’s still a great matchup for Newton.
Assuming he is named the starter, around a Week 13 bye, Newton gets favorable matchups against the Miami Dolphins (Week 12), Atlanta Falcons (Week 14) and Tampa Bay Bucccaneers (Week 16) through the stretch drive of the fantasy season.
It’s still a bit speclative to add Newton to a fantasy roster, barring an announcement he’s the starter already. But there’s nothing preventing him from being the Panthers’ starting quarterback for the rest of the season, and he’s automatically fantasy relevant based on what he can still add as a runner.
