Kalen Ballage, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
Ballage was promoted from the Chargers practice squad in Week 9, and had 15 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown along with two catches for 15 yards. Justin Jackson (knee) was placed on IR this past week, and Ballage did it again as the lead back Sunday against the Miami Dolphins (18 carries for 68 yards; five catches for 34 yards). Once is a fluke, twice is a trend….
Austin Ekeler (hamstring/knee) took to social media to profess that his return is near last week, and Chargers reporter Daniel Popper expects a Week 12 return. So Ballage, with Jackson on IR and Joshua Kelley not a thing anymore, is in line for another 15-20 touch outing in Week 11. And it’s a favorable matchup to boot.
The New York Jets entered their Week 10 bye allowing the seventh-most fantasy points to running backs (Yahoo! 0.5-point PPR). They are headed toward the No. 1 pick in the 2021 draft, so waning effort will be par for that course.
Ekeler may not step right back into the role envisioned for him during the preseason when he returns, and the Chargers have supported two fantasy relevant running backs before. Ballage is a viable streamer-style option for Week 11, with a hint of possible utility after that in leagues with 12 or more teams.
