Allen Lazard, WR, Green Bay Packers

Lazard (core muscle surgery) traveled with the team for Week 9, so his activation off IR to play Week 10 against the Jacksonville Jaguars seemed like a formality. But the ever-cautious Packers did not activate him. So on to Week 11 it is, when Lazard should be take on off IR and play. If he’s not taken off IR this coming week, the window to activate him will close and he will miss the rest of the season.

Lazard has 13 receptions for 254 yards and two touchdowns in three games this season. His Week 3 showing, six receptions for 146 yards and a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints when Davante Adams was out, was even more impressive considering he played part of the game with the core muscle injury he needed surgery for.

There are no great-looking matchups on the schedule until Week 16 (Tennessee Titans) for Lazard. But one caveat is Adams draw plenty of attention and the opposition’s best cornerback regularly. The second caveat is Aaron Rodgers, who raises the ceiling of any prominent pass catcher-if only sporadically (see Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Robert Tonyan).

The idea of stashing Lazard has been out there in recent weeks. For Week 11 adding him is set to pay off on the field, and the floor down the stretch is a WR3/WR4 in 12 and 14-team leagues. Valdes-Scantling (16 percent rostered in Yahoo! leagues; 10.1 percent rostered in ESPN leagues) might be worth a look in deeper leagues.
