Peyton Barber, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Well, so much for Ronald Jones as the clear-cut No. 1 back for Tampa Bay. While Jones did have more touches (19 to 12), including a team-high eight catches for 77 yards Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, he also had a fumble and there was Barber with the same number of carries (11) for more yards on the ground (43 to 29) and a touchdown. Barber does have double-digit carries in two of the last three games.

Being on narrow side of a touch split is not great for Barber’s fantasy outlook, to say nothing of a tough-looking matchup against the New Orleans Saints in Week 11. And it only get marginally easier after that, with the Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts on the slate from Week 12-16. But in that stretch a Week 15 matchup against the Detroit Lions looks favorable, as much as Barber’s fantasy value may fluctuate between now and then.

Jones may be atop the depth chart, but it appears Barber is not going away. It’ll be hard to rely on him at all on a week-to-week basis, but those looking for running back depth in 12 and 14-team leagues can do a lot worse.
