The 2020 NFL season is here, and it will be a unique one as the league navigates COVID-19. Fantasy football owners will have unique challenges managing rosters, with the prospect of players testing positive and having to be inactive for multiple weeks.
Mostly for depth or streaming purposes right now, here are nine must-adds off your Week 1 fantasy football waiver wire.
Chris Thompson, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
Leonard Fournette’s release last week has created uncertainty in the Jaguars’ running back rotation. Ryquell Armstead has gone back on the COVID-19 list, leaving Devine Ozigbo and undrafted rookie James Robinson to split early down work.
Enter Thompson, who had at least 35 catches in each of the last five seasons in Washington. He also has history with Jay Gruden, the former Washington head coach and new Jacksonville offensive coordinator. Add in the likelihood of negative game scripts as the team trails frequently, and Thompson has the clearest path to consistent touches in the Jaguars’ backfield.
Be aware that Jacksonville may sign Devonta Freeman at some point, but Thompson is still underowned and a must-add for Week 1.
