Pittsburgh Penguins (5-5-1) at New York Islanders (5-4-2)

Spread: Penguins (-110)
Over/Under: 5.5 Goals
Time: 7:00pm ET (ESPN+

Let’s begin with the road team. The Penguins enter tonight’s game with a 1-5-1 road record. But with their better goaltender, Casey DeSmith expected in the net. This is not the Penguins we are used to. The goaltending has not been the same since they moved Marc Andre-Fleury. Yes, they went with Matt Murray thinking he was their future, but it sure looks like he had a magic run and that’s about it. The Penguins are 18th in goals scored, but 29th in goals allowed. Meaning, they give up more goals than they score. To make matters worse, their special teams are not great either. One number that sticks out is their ability to block shots.

The Islanders are undefeated at home so far this season with arguably the early front runner for the Vezina Trophy, Semyon Varlamov. 60-percent of his wins have come by way of shut out! The Islanders have their offensive woes as they are one of the worst offensive teams in the league. Their special teams are both middle of the road. But their even strength defense is great. They may not score a lot, but they also don’t allow many goals nor many shots on goal.

This is a traditional divisional battle and I expect it to be played tight.
