From Dede Westbrook to Keelan Cole, the Jaguars receivers have disappointed as a group. Last year, D.J. Chark was a surprise but they need more than one person to catch the ball. That’s why they selected Colorado wideout Laviska Shenault Jr. with the 42nd overall pick.
Jay Gruden is calling the offense in Jacksonville and Shenault was a highly thought of prospect whose size and speed knocked him down to a Day 2 pick instead of a Day 1 selection. Still, with Chark, he’ll be a receiver who can move around the field and make plays with yards after the catch.
Shenault will join a crowded group of receivers but few have given a good fight from year to year. So there’s a good chance we see the rookie contribute immediately. It might be good to see who gets targeted in training camp and in practice as this is a battle that is sure to draw interest.
