Sanchez struggled against the Mets on Thursday, allowing four runs on six hits (two home runs) in three IP. He struck out two and walked none. Both homers, hit by Champ Stuart and Yoenis Cespedes, came in the 3rd inning and accounted for all four runs. Sanchez is competing with the likes of Matt Boyd, Daniel Norris, and Mike Pelfrey for one of the remaining two spots in Detroit’s rotation, but outings like this won’t instill much confidence in manager Brad Ausmus. The long ball has become a major issue for Sanchez over the last two seasons, having posted a 1.66 HR/9 in 2015 and 1.76 HR/9 in 2016. His salary ($16M) may give him the inside track on the rotation gig, but continued struggles will have him relegated to the bullpen. In that case, Sanchez would be irrelevant for fantasy.
