The NFL season is 5 weeks old and with bye weeks still going you need to be on top of making your fantasy football waiver wire claims for the upcoming week. Every year there are a handful of players that come out of nowhere to have big opening weeks and turn into fantasy gold throughout the season. With that in mind we bring to you seven players that fantasy owners should immediately try to get on their teams in Week 6.
Marlon Mack, RB, Indianapolis Colts
ESPN Ownership: 3.3%
Yahoo! Ownership: 7%
Mack was seen as a potential threat to Frank Gore’s workload almost immediately upon being drafted in April, and he had 10 carries with a touchdown in Week 1. Then a couple missed games in Week 3 and Week 4 kept Gore in place as the Colts’ clear lead back.
But Mack returned on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, with a 22-yard touchdown run as part of nine carries for 91 yards while also tallying one catch for two yards.
Gore had 86 total yards on Sunday, but he also averaged just 3.4 yards per carry in the game and entered the week averaging just 3.1 yards per carry. Mack seems to add something Gore just doesn’t or can’t, due in part to youth.
Mack is in line to at least split work with Gore, if not eventually take the lead role on the plus side of 60-40 or better split. Now healthy, Mack is plenty worth a roster spot in 12 and 14-team leagues.
