The NFL season is 12 weeks old and with bye weeks still going you need to be on top of making your fantasy football waiver wire claims for the upcoming week. Every year there are a handful of players that come out of nowhere to have big opening weeks and turn into fantasy gold throughout the season. With that in mind we bring to you nine players that fantasy owners should immediately try to get on their teams in Week 13.
Rex Burkhead, RB, New England Patriots
ESPN Ownership: 43.3%
Yahoo! Ownership: 50%
Burkhead had 53 total yards (50 rushing) and two total touchdowns against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, while tying Dion Lewis for the lead among Patriots’ running backs in snaps with 28.
Burkhead has at least nine touches in four straight games, with double-digit carries in two of the last three and over 50 total yards in three out of those four.
New England’s running back rotation is a week-to-week proposition, but Burkhead has made the most of his opportunities since returning from injury in Week 7.
With two games (Week 13 and Week 16) against the Buffalo Bills, who entered Week 12 allowing the second-most fantasy points to running backs (ESPN PPR scoring), and a rematch with the Dolphins in Week 14, suddenly Burkhead looks like a low-end RB2/flex during the fantasy playoffs. He should be a top add this week in all fantasy football leagues.
