The 2017 NFL season is just one week old and while many might think it’s premature to start picking up people from their fantasy football waiver wire, they are wrong. Every year a no name blows up in Week 1 and ends up being a top-20 fantasy football player over the remainder of the season. So, instead of letting your competition beat you to the punch, use your fantasy football waiver wire to find the next big thing.
Let’s get things started by taking at some fantasy football waiver wire Running Backs for Week 2.
Kerwynn Williams, RB, Arizona Cardinals
Yahoo! Ownership: 4%
We had Williams in this spot heading into Week 1, as the handcuff to David Johnson. That need, or fear of need, came to fruition with Johnson suffered a wrist injury on Sunday. After X-rays it was determined that Johnson needs surgery on his wrist and he will be out anywhere from two to three full months. Realistically, if you own Johnson, you better hope you make the fantasy playoffs, otherwise his service to you could be over.
Williams had a rushing touchdown and six touches (one catch) after Johnson left Sunday’s game, while Andre Ellington saw some action and had two catches.
Whoever lines up in the backfield for Arizona gets favorable matchups against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2 and the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4, surrounding a middling matchup against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3.
A backfield committee may be coming if Johnson is out for a while, but it’s generally a good idea to lean toward the guy that gets goal line work. That looks to be Williams if the situation presents itself, and he’s a priority addition for Johnson owners. — Brad Berreman
