The 2016 NFL season is 15 weeks old and the time is now to start picking up players from your fantasy football waiver wire in attempt to make a playoff push in your league. Every year a no name blows up over the first couple of weeks and ends up being a top-20 fantasy football player over the remainder of the season. So, instead of letting your competition beat you to the punch, use your fantasy football waiver wire to find the next big thing.
Let’s get things started by taking a look at some fantasy football waiver wire Running Backs for Week 16.
Dion Lewis, RB, New England Patriots
Owned in 48% of Yahoo Leagues
After totaling 19 carries over his first four games this season, Lewis had 18 carries for 95 yards and two catches for nine yards against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. LeGarrette Blount’s role did not go away (17 carries for 31 yards and a touchdown), but Lewis appears to have usurped James White once and for all.
Neither of New England’s final two opponents, the New York Jets (Week 16) or the Miami Dolphins (Week 17), stand out as incredibly generous to running backs this season. But the two teams have combined to allow six receiving touchdowns to running backs, and Jets’ running back Bilal Powell had 162 total yards on 27 touches (11 catches) against the Dolphins in Week 15.
Lewis is seemingly at full strength at the most important time for fantasy owners. He’s been worth a speculative add for weeks, but now there’s actual production to make him a must-add in 12-team leagues. Especially considering the Patriots are trying to get all of their skill players rolling before playoff time. — Brad Berreman
