Chi Chi Gonzalez, who was vying for a spot in the Rangers starting rotation, has suffered a partial tear of his UCL. He will receive a PRP injection and be shut down for six weeks. No plans for TJ surgery at this time.

The Rangers are hoping to find some help in the rotation with Tyson Ross and Andrew Cashner both unable to start the season with the team. The competition is now between A.J Griffin, Mike Hauschild, Dillon Gee, Allen Webster, Eddie Gamboa, and Nick Martinez to fill the two spots to start the season. Cashner is not expected to be out very long but Ross won’t likely be available until at least May. None of the pitchers mentioned have had solid, consistent outings thus far this spring.

Masahiro Tanaka allowed two walks in 4 1/3 hitless innings, helping the Yankees throw a no-hitter against the Tigers. Tanaka, who also had six strikeouts, allowed the only two baserunners of the game. He has yet to allow a run this Spring.

Coming off of a perfect four-inning appearance in his last start, Tanaka is looking like the ace that the Yankees need. While this is Spring Training, limiting baserunners and striking out a ton of batters are good indicators for dominance. Look at Tanaka as a mid-tier SP2 with top-10 SP upside after a season where he finished 7th in the AL Cy Young.

Marcus Stroman will be pitching in a high-leverage game tonight when Team USA faces off against the team from Puerto Rico.

Stroman was excellent in his first round start against the Dominican Republic, and the competition doesn’t get much worse with Puerto Rico. It’ll be worth watching the starts as Stroman is set to throw upwards of 80 pitches if successful.

Aaron Sanchez allowed two home runs, four hits and three runs in Thursday’s spring action versus the Yankees. While he walked only one, he struck out three.

If the season started today, Sanchez wouldn’t be ready. There is some worry that he’s fatigued from last season’s work load, but we’ll have to see more from him this spring before continuing a vote of confidence.

Walker struck out eight in his four innings of work against the Cubs. He also allowed three runs on seven hits but walked none. His spring ERA stands at 2.08.

Walker went up against most of the Cubs’ starters and fared exceptionally well. A popular breakout candidate, Walker has looked great this spring with an 18/1 K/BB ratio.

Rockies manager Bud Black said Thursday that surgery on first baseman Ian Desmond’s broken left hand was successful, and he could fully recover as early as mid April

With the first game of the 2017 MLB season slated for April 3rd, this injury may only cost Desmond a couple weeks of playing time. Knowing this, you should draft Desmond at, or near, where you were originally planning to.

Chris Sale had a tough night on Thursday, allowing seven hits and three runs over four sluggish innings in the Red Sox’s spring training win over the Pirates.

Sale has looked good this spring up until Thursday’s action.  There is no reason to get alarmed as the Red Sox ace should be able to match his numbers from last year when he had 17 wins, 3.34 ERA, and 233 Ks.

Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed three hits, one earned run, walked one, and struck out four in three innings Thursday against the Chicago Cubs.

Ryu faced the Cubs’ B team on Thursday, so don’t take too much from the outing. With that said, it’s encouraging to see Ryu out there after losing the last two years to injury. It’s hard to forsee Ryu being a fantasy asset this year, as the Dodgers have a stable of options in the rotation and will probably bring Ryu along slowly.

Daniel Norris pitched well on Thursday, going 4.2 IP allowing two ER on six H (all singles). He struck out four and walked one. Anthony French of the Detroit Free Press writes that Norris as the Tigers’ 4th starter is written “in pencil”, according to manager Brad Ausmus.

While it’s not quite yet written in stone, it appears Norris has earned a rotation spot barring any injury. This should come as no surprise, as he has arguably pitched better than any other Tigers starter this spring. Norris has pitched to a 2.77 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 13 IP, striking out 10 and walking four. In standard leagues, Norris shouldn’t be drafted as anything other than a last-round sleeper or $1 flier in auction leagues, but it’s worth putting him on your watch list as he has a lot of promise.

Mike Foltynewicz, who is slated to begin the season as the Braves No. 5 starter, threw four solid innings against the Tigers Thursday. He allowed five hits and one run (earned) while walking one and striking out seven. It was a terrific start for Folty, who was blessed with a high K/9 rate today. That has been a little low in previous spring outings.

Folty has always had the talent and power to be a solid MLB starter and finally, this spring, it seems to be coming together for him. He offers nice upside relative to low draft cost and should have nice run support from the Braves offense. Folty has what it takes to pitch deep into games so the innings should be there. He’s worthy of late-round consideration for those with deeper pitching needs.

Mitch Moreland is hitting .318 (7-for-22) with a homer and seven RBI in nine spring games for Boston.

Moreland is expected to be in a platoon facing just right-handers this season for the Red Sox.  Hanley Ramirez will get the starts at first when a left-handed pitcher is on the mound.  But with Ramirez being injury prone, Moreland could see more time at first than expected.  That would make him worth owning in deeper leagues as he could have a nice season in Fenway Park.

LF Randal Grichuk makes his lone hit of the day count as he walks off on a soft single against the Twins.  He went 1-for-4 with 2 Ks.

Seeing Grichuk get a hit in a clutch spot is a very positive sign, but you would like to see him get better at taking pitches.  This is a very free swinging OF and in points leagues he isn’t giving enough right now to keep a spot in a fantasy lineup.
