Marcus Smart scored 11 points on 4-for-15 shooting with 11 rebounds, five assists, one steal, one three-pointer and one block in 30 minutes in Wednesday’s 103-100 loss to the Bucks.

It was a solid night for Smart statistically until you look at his shooting percentage.  But fantasy owners did not pick up Smart for his shooting abilities.  He continues to provide in rebounds, assists, and steals and is a must own in 12 team leagues and deeper.

Jae Crowder scored 13 points on 4-for-13 shooting with three rebounds and two assists in 37 minutes as the Celtics lost to the Bucks on Wednesday.

This looks like just an off game for Crowder who has been very productive over the last two weeks.  Expect a bounce back on Friday against the Magic.  Crowder is also a good value in DFS at the moment at small forward.

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell told the media running back Ameer Abdullah (foot) is “coming along” in his recovery from foot surgery. “He’s coming along rehabbing and he’ll be able to, at some point in time, work out there on the field this spring. So we’ll see where he is,” Caldwell said via DetroitLions.com. “Obviously, we know what he can do when he has the ball in his hands. He’s quick. He’s tough. He’s effective. He’ll bounce back and play well for us. He’ll be fine.”

Abdullah suffered a foot injury in Week 2 of the 2016 regular season. He was placed on the injured reserve list and did not return to the team for the remainder of the campaign. Although he is still recovering from the surgery he underwent last September, Abdullah is expected to be on the field for spring workouts in some capacity. Currently, the Lions have not upgraded their running back personnel this offseason, which is good news for Abdullah. He is slated as the No. 1 running back on the depth chart with Theo Riddick, the team’s primary receiver out of the backfield, at the No 2 spot. However, with veteran talents that include Adrian Peterson and Jamaal Charles still floating around on the open market, the Lions could still make a move to improve their backfield. I also wouldn’t count out the Lions selecting a rusher at some point during the NFL Draft in late-April.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (shoulder) will undergo offseason surgery on his throwing shoulder Thursday.

As announced earlier in the month, Newton will undergo his shoulder surgery Thursday. Schefter reports that the 27-year-old signal caller is expected to be sidelined for “about four months” as a result. Newton will miss spring workouts but should be available for the start of training camp in late-July. Although he is still slated a QB1 by most experts after accounting for a down year in 2016, Newton has work to do before being mentioned in the elite category he was in during the 2015 campaign in which he accumulated 45 total touchdowns.

SP Matt Shoemaker gave up three runs on nine hits over four innings on Wednesday. He struck out three and issued one walk.

The right-hander has 21 strikeouts over 17 innings in Spring Training, with 5.29 ERA. It has been an encouraging camp for Shoemaker who recovered from a fractured skull sustained from a comebacker last season. He finished 2016 with 3.88 ERA (3.51 FIP) and 143 strikeouts over 160 innings in 27 starts. The health concerns make Shoemaker an excellent value pick in drafts this season.

3B/OF Jose Ramirez went 3-for-3 with two runs and a walk as the Indians beat the Reds 9-6 in their final Cactus League game.

The 24-year-old looks in excellent form for the start of the season, hitting .314 AVG with .357 OBP. With Jason Kipnis starting the year on the DL, the likelihood is that Ramirez will shift over to second base. That extra position eligibility adds even further fantasy value to one of the biggest breakouts of 2016. Last season, Ramirez hit .312 with 11 home runs, 74 runs, 66 RBIs, and 22 stolen bases.

SS Francisco Lindor went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the Indians’ win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

The Puerto Rican superstar hit .304 (17-for-56) between the WBC and Cactus League, with three home runs, 11 runs, and 8 RBIs. Lindor scored 99 runs in 2016 with 19 stolen bases. The addition of Edwin Encarnacion to the Indians’ lineup could signal an increase in both stats.

1B/DH Carlos Santana went 1-for-3 with a walk and a double as the Indians defeated the Reds 9-6 on Wednesday

The switch-hitter has a batting average of .268 (15-for-56) combined between the WBC and Cactus League. He hit one home run with six RBI. The Indians will be fluid with their batting order, so Santana will likely hit leadoff vs. RHP and drop down against lefties. Indians’ GM Terry Francona has also hinted that Santana could see time in the outfield, as early as the interleague series vs. Diamondbacks on April 7.
