Hi-
New here but love the forum.  We have our draft Wednesday and I can’t make it.  Someone will be drafting for them and I need to give them an idea of what I am looking for and they will do their best.  12 Team league.  CBS Sportsline standard scoring.  I am the second pick overall in a standard snake draft.  Looking for advice on what positions to draft in what order.

i.e.  RB/RB/WR/QB/ etc.. or something different?

This is my second season and I am still a bit of a noob… But hope I gave enough info to get some decent suggestions.

Thanks!

If someone is drafting for you (is this a live draft?) its pretty hard to give real explicit instructions as you need to be able to adjust to what is going on before and likely to go one after you…tell them who to pick 1.2 and after that best player available or use their judgment

Thanks.  Yes, it’s a live draft and someone is picking for me.  Looking for general guidelines on what positions to target and then advise them to take the best available.  Not a great situation I know but can’t get out of a previous commitment.    So wondering I just go “best available” and take my chances.  Or go best available with a caveat, like RB first, RB second round, WR third, etc.    Appreciate anyones advice here….

PPR? How many pts per passing TD?

Being that 20 picks will be made between your 1st and 2nd its just really hard to say…the RBs will be pretty depleted by 2.11 and the top WR will be flying off the shelf as well…I’d go AP/CJ at 1.2 and then WR/WR or maybe grab your QB at 3.2, best WR/RB at 4.11 and then grab a top flight TE in the 5th so you at least have a solid guy at all 4 positions…

John, Your best bet is to make tiers of players that have a high probability of being available for your almost consecutive picks. With the 2nd pick…your getting AP or CJ and now your next two picks are 23 and 26….so I would tell the person picking I want a WR/WR or WR/QB with my 2nd and 3rd….so go to the Bruno Boys rankings and look at who is ranked in the top 150 and order a list of say from the 16th best to 36th best and it’ll be easier for the person picking. The do the same for each tier…so next say I want RB/TE or RB/QB with rounds 4-5 and make a list of whose around there…so on and so forth. You don’t want someone else picking for you fully and its stinks you have to miss probably the best part of the season next to holding your trophy…

Best of Luck!

Oh and if you don’t do anythuing else, definitely give him a list of players no matter what that you DON’T want. We all have players that for some reason we just don’t want them on our teams…give him a list of those so you have a better chance of getting players you like or wouldn’t mind.

John…. I can only imagine how much pain you are going through knowing that you won’t be able to draft your fantasy squad tonight. However, sometimes it happens and I hope you have trust in the guy that gets the honor of calling out your selections round by round.  I agree with James about placing players in a tier structure that will allow the person drafting for you to pick from each tier. By doing it this way, the drafter gets a better idea of what players you are targeting and it will show him that you value the player in that specific tier the same.

Also, James made a good point about using our Top 150 Rankings to help you while doing so and let me link you to them. We just updated the Top 150 today…

Best of Luck and let us know what strategy you went with and how the draft played out.

Thanks All-
Great stuff here.  The draft is Wednesday evening.  I have a friend from work who will draft for me and he is drafting 7th or 8th so there is some distance between our picks which is good.  I have taken the advice to use a tiered approach by round with some caveats of where I would like to be heading into the second half of the draft.

I am bummed to miss the draft but feel like I am in good hands and have a decent strategy.  I am trying to get him to use your rankings during the draft.  But he is 50/50 as he has one he prefers and wants to track it all on one sheet vs. keeping two.  Maybe the price I pay for not being there.  But I will keep trying to sway him over….

Will let you know how it goes-

Thanks again!

Sounds good John… Keep on swaying him… I know he is drafting for you, and doing you a favor, but after all it is your team!  Also, we updated our Top 150 yesterday to reflect injuries and position battles from around the league…  You can check it out here…

Thanks.  I saw the updated rankings.  Are the cheatsheets updated as well or should I just print out the three pages?

Tiers are the way to go and instruct whoever is going to draft for you in how you want it to be done. The first few rounds can be predictable as to what will fall to you for the most part. i like going Rb-WR-WR-RB and starting with the fifth round, thats where the tiers will REALLY be key

OK…..draft was tonight and I just got my the results of the “autobot” system which I think will draw mixed reviews but hopefully some encouraging advice on where to go from here…  12 team league, PPR, 15 round draft, I drafted second….here is how it went down by round… The instructions I gave to my friend drafting were a bit different than what happened but so it goes when you aren’t there…I also have no idea whats left yet…

1.  Adrian Peterson, RB
2. Calvin Johnson, WR
3. Tony Romo, QB
4. Vincent Jackson, WR…no idea why they did this to me in the 4th round but the guy drafting for me is convinced he will sign and be a stud.
5.  Dallas Clarke, TE
6. Reggie Bush, RB
7.  Hines Ward, WR
8. Lendale White, RB
9.  Steelers D
10. Chad Henne,QB
11. Willis McGheahy, RB
12. David Akers, K
13. Nate Burleson, WR
14.  Jabar Gaffne, WR
15. Chaz Schilens, WR

So….how good, bad, or mediocre is it to start and what needs to be fixed?

Thanks!

Vincent Jackson in the fourth in inexcusable. Secondly, Lendale White isn’t even being drafted in most drafts and he got him for you in the 8th.The biggest cause for concern is at RB depth. Drop LenDale and try to get one of the waiver RBs out there. Sit tight with VJax for now. You already have him, might as well pray he signs or gets traded. Rumors are the Rams. Remember he will have to sit for a few games but he may pan out in the long run. Hope he hits his stride before its too late to salvage your season. THe good news is, it could have been a lot worse.
