“NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports that the Cardinals have “very likely” given up on Matt Leinart.”
“One quote from Ken Whisenhunt Thursday was especially notable, after he announced Derek Anderson as the starter for Arizona’s third preseason game: “A lot of people look at this like a dress rehearsal game. We’re not looking at it that way.” Leinart has clearly been demoted, barring a sparkling effort off the bench at Chicago. Derek Anderson will be the temporary starter. Aug. 26

Great news for Fitzgerald owners! He still won’t be Andre or Moss good but Derek Anderson will keep him as a must start fantasy player. Whew! I bet they made a phone call to Warner
If you think about it, would you be really surprised if Derek Anderson had a year like he did with the Browns? Fitz is above and beyond better than anything Anderson has ever thrown to. I wish Fitz wwould be out there for this weeks preseason game and we could see how they work together.
Fitz’s value definitly increases. Anderson has a really strong arm. If he and Larry work together more and get their timing down I don’t think its unreasonable to expect numbers similar to last year for Fitz.
Just a quick update… NFL.com writer Michael Lombardi is stating that he wouldn’t be surprised if the Cardinals released Matt Leinart. After learning he was demoted Leinart lashed out and said he was frustrated and disappointed with the situation. He also felt he didn’t get a fair shot to be assessed.
The thinking behind the potential release it is that Arizona might try and target a veteran free agent quarterback and they aren’t willing to dump current fourth string QB Max Hall. Obviously nothing is a guarantee; however, it looks like Leinart’s days are numbers in Arizona.
They obviously will put a feeler out to Warner but I see that Jeff Garcia is playing in that new UFL…I’d love the Cardinals to grab someone like that to help Fitzgerald’s fantasy value but the problem is that they lost a lot of pieces from their Superbowl run. They are starting over from scratch almost (Dansby, Rolle, Boldin and Warner gone). Signing a Veteran I think is like putting a band-aid on a broken leg. They might as well roll with Anderson, see what they have, and if they have no shot to win the division then shoot for a top 5 draft pick and start with a new young QB.
I heard an interview with Ken Whisenhunt this afternoon and he said that Leinart will play the second half of the game. Claims that he is changing things up a bit to see how the players perform and not to read too much into Derek Anderson starting. We shall see!

Looks like Matt Leinart got the message tonight. He was 9-of-10 for 84 yards and a touchdown pass to Steve Breaston. Derek Anderson started and also played well in the Cardinals 14-9 win over the Chicago Bears. It should be interesting to see what Ken Whisenhunt has to say in his Sunday press conference.
According to Adam Schefter on Twitter, several Cardinals players, including Larry Fitzgerald, Steve Breaston and Beanie Wells attended a gala event at the Playboy mansion at which they ran into former NFL quarterback Tim Couch with his lovely wife and former Playmate of the year, Heather Kosar.
The players were overheard pleading their case to Tim about taking over the reins at QB for the AZ team. Couch was seen glancing several times at Heather and then the guys before saying, “he’d have to sleep on it.” More info to follow…
