Guy missed games last year because of migraines, has been away from camp this year and now today…
Harvin was removed from the Vikings’ practice field in an ambulance on Thursday after collapsing, Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1510 AM Twin Cities reports. Head coach Brad Childress said it was an “episode” related to his chronic migraine headaches.
He had like a seizure or something, they dont really know. He has problems with migrane headaches since he was younger. Well during practice he collapsed and they took him to the hospital by ambulance. Talking about percy not rice:) Not sure whats up with rice.
While I agree that the migraines/medical issues are serious, I think it’s premature to take Harvin off your draft board entirely unless you are completely risk averse. Harvin has too much upside to take him out of consideration all together. If you don’t take him, you can be sure that one of the other managers in your league will. Like so many other players with question marks around them, the important thing is to (1) not draft him too soon and (2) build depth in your roster so you’re covered when/if Harvin misses time. Heading into the preseason, I ranked Harvin at No. 21, mid-low WR2 (12-team leagues). In light of recent developments, I’ve dropped him down to a WR3. I’d be okay drafting him in the middle rounds. If you can handle some “wait and see” Sundays and have room on your roster to draft a comparable backup, then keep Harvin on your draft board and pick him up later. Berrian is healthy and certainly stands to see increased looks with both Harvin and Rice ailing…he could be a handcuff to either guy. Berrian was going undrafted or very late until recently, so to get him now, you might need to grab him earlier than his standalone fantasy value merits. Alternately, target a WR3 with upside from another team whose fantasy value is comparable to Harvin’s and insert him into your lineup when you need to.
Allie, I agree you cant take him off your boards…but its is an issue and its one thats not apt to go away…he is likely to miss time at odd or even frequent intervals…so everyone should be aware that he is essentially week to week for the whole year
I’m not too worried. He only missed one game last season and he still suited up initially. the coaches made the call if I remember correctly. Anyway, he’s already back at practice (though not yet participating). He’s supposedly bulked up this year too. I don’t think he can be drafted as any more than a low end WR2 but he could have a huge year and he will play most of the games even with his migraines (they come in spurts, aren’t made worse by contact, and he can play through most of them). I’m actually moving him back to his former ranking of about 25th WR off the board. With the recent news that Rice will at best be questionable for week one, Harvin has by far most to gain since he is their best after the catch receiver. Given that he already has already proven himself as a elite returner and strong red zone target, I think he could have an absolute field day if he gets a large number of targets.
The Vikings are taking steps to shore up their WR corps with Rice out for at least half the season and Harvin’s migraines (though I still like him on the whole). In addition to Javon Walker, the Vikings acquired Greg Camarillo from the Dolphins. http://brunoboys.net/forum/viewthread/3793/

It should be interesting to see how Brett Favre handles the situation. He has made a lot of average receivers look good and I wouldn’t be surprised if he does that to Bernard Berrian and Greg Camarillo in 2010. Also, for those of you doubting Percy Harvin, I wouldn’t do it. He is going to lineup on the outside in 2010 and will be Favre’s best playmaker outside of Adrian Peterson. Yes, the headaches and always being on the injury report takes it’s tool; however, make sure to get yourself a reliable back up so that you are covered in weeks when Harvin’s status is in doubt. Don’t just right off one of the NFLs most dynamic players because of headache issues…
