I have a while to pick my keepers still and a lot could change depending on signings and potential trades.
My obvious QB is Peyton Manning

RB choices are: Jonathon Stewart, DeAngelo Williams, Rashard Mendenhall, Shonn Greene and LeSean McCoy

Right now I would lean towards Williams, however it was a crap shoot over who would get the most points between him and Stewart.  Stewart looked really good the last couple games.  Greene has been tearing up the playoffs, Mendenhall should be a feature back, and Westbrook might be retiring, although I don’t think I pick McCoy in any scenario.

My keeper receiver is V. Jax, don’t think Boldin is a better choice.

Thanks!

BS…Would you please provide a little more information on your league? 1) How many players can you keep in your league AND 2) How many running backs do you start each week?

Sure,
We get to keep 3 players, and they can’t be the same position.  Usually this means 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR…  although a TE could sub in for any of those.
We start 2 RB’s each week, no flex.
I also just realized I dropped Greene and picked up Jason Campbell incase the Colts sat Manning.  So it would be between Mendenhall, D-Will and Stewart.
League is standard scoring 1 point per 10 yards rush/receive, 6 pts per TD

Just a few random thoughts.

Boldin IS a keeper with his skill level.  But It takes two to tango and with Warner contemplating retirement, Leinert would be tossing him the ball.  For now that reduces Boldin’s value till we see who is tossing him the ball and how well Leinert responds to being the top dog after a whole preseason to prep.  This is all speculation (unless I missed a solid YES or NO from Warner).

Westbrook IS finished.  Even after he recovered, he was not being utilized.  Here in Eagles nation, everyone is in the same agreement.  His time as ended.  See you.  Bye Bye. So Long.

Love Stewart, Mendenhall and Greene.  Sanchez will still struggle at times as a sophmore.  Will they lean on greene more then the other guys?  McCoy needs to show me something for me to pick him up early or as a keeper.

Skill wise… ....And this isnt with me looking at individual stats…..Im thinking…Stewart, Mendenhall and then WIlliams…

How soon do yo select?  Are you able to watch your guys NFL teams draft and trade for players before releasing your players into the “pool”?

Boldin does have keeper level talent, and it will be interesting to see whether Arizona keeps him or not, but I think V. Jackson is in a better situation and an pretty easy pick over Boldin at the moment.

I realized I don’t have Greene anymore, so he isn’t in the conversation, be interesting to see if the Jets keep T. Jones after his performance in the last few games.

Skillwise for the RB position, I think it is D. Will, Stewart, Mendenhall.  If Williams or Stewart were on the Steelers, they would light it up.

I am hoping one of the backs gets traded in the offseason so it makes my decision easy.  If Williams gets traded, I keep Stewart and vice versa… Carolina would be a great team to have a featured back on.

I have a while to choose… we select our keepers in July, so we can see how teams draft/trade.

I would not discount Mendenhall’s value as a keeper given the situation in Pittsburgh. The Steelers have recommitted to the running game and Mendenhall-the first round draft pick in 2008- took over as Pittsburgh’s starting RB in Week 4. Mendenhall carried the ball 242 times, rushed for 1,108 yards and scored 7 touchdowns compared to Willie Parker’s 98 carries, 389 yards and no touchdowns. Unless something drastic happens, Mendenhall should be the starting RB in 2010.

Willie Parker, who can become an unrestricted free agent during the offseason, clearly sees it that way too as evidenced by his recent comments to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: “I’m a starter always looked at myself as starter, that’s what I want to be. So, till I hang up pads, that’s how I’m going to look at myself. Rashard is a great back and he had a great season and, hopefully, he’ll carry it on. I had six great years here with the Steelers. We won two Super Bowls. I want to thank the organization and thank everybody. You know how the business goes. I love these guys. I love the organization. I’m a Steeler by heart. We’ll see what happens in the future.”  If Parker does go, then it will be interesting to see who the Steelers bring on as their RB#2…but at this point it doesn’t appear likely that Mendenhall will be splitting carries the way Williams and Stewart do in Carolina.

I think Stewart has the talent and skill to be an elite RB and I prefer him to DeAngelo Williams. I find myself ranking your options in the same order as Mercury - Stewart, Mendenhall, Williams, and McCoy. Stewart would be a lock for me were he not splitting the workload with Williams…which is why I think Mendenhall merits serious consideration as a keeper .

So a bit has changed since I first posted looking for keeper help.  The big one being Vincent Jackson being suspended and looking like a real threat to hold out.
So with some depth at RB, I pulled the trigger on a straight up trade, Mendenhall for Roddy White.  I get a stud WR, and still have D. Will as my keeper back.
Thoughts?  The other owner is going to keep Randy Moss (he valued him higher, and he probably will have a better year, but I prefer White as he has lots of productive seasons left).

First of all, I like the trade.  You used a surplus at one position to fill a need at another.  Well done.  White is in for a good year, and I had kind of soured on Mendenhall anyways lately with the loss of that lineman (i forget his name) and I think teams will stack the box with Ben out.

Concerning your RB keeper situation…..  Deangelo is a fine keeper.  I’m keeping him myself (along with Stewart) and I think he’ll have a good year.  However I would give some thought to keeping Shonn Greene.  He will be THE GUY running the ball (LT will only steal a few touches I feel), has enormous upside (10-14 TDs), and being a keeper league, the fact that he’s four years younger than Williams is a big plus.  It’s entirely possible that one of the Carolina backs will thrive and one will flop.  You don’t want to use your only RB keeper spot on the wrong one.

Not trying to talk you out of anything….. Just food for thought.

Thanks for the reply.  I would definitely have considered keeping Greene, unfortunately I dropped him to pick up a backup QB incase Peyton got sat in the last few games of the season.  Kicking myself over it, in hindsight there were a lot better options than him to drop.
With the trade of Mendenhall, it is really over who to keep between Stewart and Williams.
Most places have Williams higher than Stewart.  I kept Williams because he is a little more durable it seems (even though Stewart hasn’t missed a game) and it should be interesting to see what happens at the end of this year.  I would love to pick up Stewart again, just doubt I will seeing as I have the last pick in the first and second rounds.
