According to the Minneapolis StarTribune free-agent quarterback Brett Favre has opted against a return to the Minnesota Vikings and will stay retired. According to Judd Zulgadd of the StarTribune, Favre contacted Vikings’ coach Brad Childress and said he does not have the desire to compete at a high level on a daily basis.

Favre had been in talks with the Vikings since April but with the latest news surfacing it looks to be the final chapter (or so we hope) in the Brett Favre era.

Bruno Boys Take: Nothing really changes from a fantasy football standpoint. If Favre joined forces with the Vikings’ he would have been no more than QB2 in all fantasy leagues, but with him out of the mix look for Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson to battle it out in training camp. Both options are far from draft worthy and should only be snagged off your leagues waiver wire when you are in a pinch for a quarterback.

I was listening about this on sports talk this morning. I loved it when they said that Steve Marriuci stated that Brett Favre would still continue to keep working out just in case. Good gosh. Retire Brett! Something interesting that I also heard though is that Favre has been telling the Vikings no for a few weeks now but they keep telling him just give it more time.

I feel like if I was a player I would play as long as I could, or as long as I still enjoyed it enough, but I’m glad to see Favre decided not to play this season. Regardless of what you think of him, he’s one of the greatest quarterbacks in league history and I hate to see legend’s careers die out in uniforms they shouldn’t be wearing (Emmitt Smith as a Cardinal, Joe Montana as a Chief, Jerry Rice as anything but a 49er), not to mention Favre would’ve been doing that in a Vikings uniform, a big rival of the Packers for which he gave so much.
