The 2019 NFL season is now eight weeks old and the time is now to start picking up people from their fantasy football waiver wire and hoping they can help you secure a playoff spot. Every year a no name blows up in Week 1 and ends up being a top-20 fantasy football player over the remainder of the season. So, instead of letting your competition beat you to the punch, use your fantasy football waiver wire to find the next big thing.
Let’s get things started by taking a look at some fantasy football waiver wire quarterbacks for Week 9.
Sam Darnold, QB, New York Jets
After an abysmal showing in Week 7 against the New England Patriots, Darnold threw for 218 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Now, the anticipated soft part of his schedule is here. Darnold is now dealing with a left thumb injury, but he is expected to play through it.
In Week 9 Darnold gets the Miami Dolphins, who are allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks (Yahoo! scoring). Then he gets favorable matchups against the New York Giants, Washington Redskins, Oakland Raiders and the Cincinnati Bengals before the Dolphins again in Week 14. Even Week 15 against the Baltimore Ravens, who entered their Week 8 bye allowing nearly 276 raw passing yards per game to quarterbacks.
Darnold “seeing ghosts” on the Monday night stage helped keep fantasy owners away from him heading into Week 8. But that just means there’s still an opportunity to add him now, ahead of a run of games where he’s lined up to deliver weekly QB1 numbers.
