Baker Mayfield, QB, Cleveland Browns
Mayfield’s matchups have looked as good anyone’s in the last two weeks, and he has ‘”rewarded” fantasy owners with less than 198 passing yards per game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He threw multiple touchdowns in each game though, so going back to the well is pertinent in Week 9.
The Kansas City Chiefs have been a lot better defensively lately, but they’re still a bottom-10 fantasy defense against quarterbacks and their offense puts opposing offenses into passing mode to keep pace.
The Browns have removed internal tension by firing head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley, and it’s possible that tension was impacting Mayfield’s performance. It may not even matter who the new coordinator is (running backs coach Freddie Kitchens, by the way) for Mayfield to show some sort of improvement.
On each side of his Week 11 bye, Mayfield gets favorable matchups against the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals. We’ve been here before as he has not ultimately delivered, but Mayfield will still be on the streaming radar in each of his next three games and his matchup in a six-team Week 9 bye week can’t be ignored.
