The 2018 NFL season is seven weeks old and there is still enough time to start picking up people from your fantasy football waiver wire. Every year a no name blows up in Week 1 and ends up being a top-20 fantasy football player over the remainder of the season. So, instead of letting your competition beat you to the punch, use your fantasy football waiver wire to find the next big thing.

Let’s get things started by taking a look at some fantasy football waiver wire wide receivers for Week 8.

Tre’Quan Smith, WR, New Orleans Saints

Smith got some attention after catching the touchdown pass that made Drew Brees the NFL’s all-time passing yardage leader in Week 5, on his way to over 100 yards and two touchdowns against the Washington Redskins. Then after a bye week, he followed up with six targets (three catches for 44 yards) against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 7. With Ted Ginn out for the season, and Cameron Meredith getting zero targets against Baltimore, Smith appears to be the Saints’ No. 2 wide receiver.

The return of Mark Ingram over the last two games has brought back lower passing volume for Brees. That caps the fantasy upside of any Saints wide receiver not named Michael Thomas, but Smith’s nine targets over the last two games puts him somewhere in the pecking order and the reigns on Brees are in line to be loosened against the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams over the next two weeks.

Smith has still has a lot of boom-or-bust to him, and he’s a better option in standard scoring than PPR. But if you’re looking for a WR4 to use as plug-in for upcoming bye weeks, there are a lot worse options out there.
