The 2018 NFL season is seven weeks old and the time is now to start picking up people from their fantasy football waiver wire and hoping they can help you secure a playoff spot. Every year a no name blows up in Week 1 and ends up being a top-20 fantasy football player over the remainder of the season. So, instead of letting your competition beat you to the punch, use your fantasy football waiver wire to find the next big thing.

Let’s get things started by taking a look at some fantasy football waiver wire Quarterbacks for Week 8.

Alex Smith, QB, Washington Redskins

Smith has topped 280 passing yards once all season to this point, and he’s now gone below 180 yards in back-to-back games with zero or one touchdown pass in two of his last three. But he’s in line for an uptick in the coming weeks, for whatever that’s worth.

Entering their game against the Atlanta Falcons Monday night, the New York Giants allowed multiple touchdown passes in three of their previous four games and over 16 fantasy points (ESPN scoring) in those same three contests. Smith gets that matchup in Week 8, followed by the Falcons and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 9 and Week 10. They were the second-worst and worst against quarterbacks entering Week 7 (ESPN scoring), respectively, so Smith is line for good outings.

Smith has always been an undervalued fantasy quarterback, and he remains highly uninteresting. But if you’re looking toward Week 8, 9 or 10 with your QB1 on a bye, or simply a matchup play to stream those weeks, Smith is worth a look off the waiver wire this week.
