Derek Carr, QB, Oakland Raiders
Carr continues to make some inexplicably bad throws. But he completed close to 73 percent of his passes (24 of 33) against the Chargers in Week 5, for 268 yards with a touchdown and an interception. That yardage was actually his season low.
The Seattle Seahawks entered Week 5 allowing the sixth-fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks (ESPN scoring). But this is no longer “The Legion of Boom” and the best two quarterbacks they’ve faced (Case Keenum and Jared Goff) have both topped 300 passing yards against them. It’s a London game next Sunday, but Carr is lined up for a solid outing.
After a Week 7 bye Carr gets the Indianapolis Colts, the San Francisco 49ers and the Chargers again from Week 8-Week 11. The 49ers and Chargers entered Week 5 in the bottom-10 of the league against quarterbacks (ESPN scoring), and the Colts have allowed five touchdown passes and 716 passing yards over their last two games.
Carr’s ownership is slowly climbing, but in the midst of bye weeks he should be owned more as a QB2 in 12 and 14-team leagues.
