The 2018 NFL season is just two weeks old and while many might think it’s premature to start picking up people from their fantasy football waiver wire, they are wrong. Every year a no name blows up in Week 1 and ends up being a top-20 fantasy football player over the remainder of the season. So, instead of letting your competition beat you to the punch, use your fantasy football waiver wire to find the next big thing.
Let’s get things started by taking a look at some fantasy football waiver wire running backs for Week 3.
Austin Ekeler, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
Ekeler followed 10 touches for 126 total yards in Week 1 with 11 carries for 77 yards and three catches for 21 yards against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. He has been heavily involved in both games thus far, with standalone fantasy value to boot.
It’s not necessarily a great matchup in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Rams, but Raiders running back Jalen Richard had nine catches on 11 targets against them in Week 1 and that’s the kind of role Ekeler would fill. Add in the likelihood of a high-scoring game, and there will be plenty of opportunities and fantasy points to go around.
Ekeler’s ownership rates has jumped a lot, and rightfully so. But he is entering weekly flex option territory, especially in PPR scoring, and if Melvin Gordon were to go down to injury Ekeler would be a mid-to-high end RB1 almost instantly.
