Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Fitzpatrick is stepping in for the Buccaneers while Jameis Winston is suspended, and he went 21-for-28 for 417 yards, with 36 rushing yards and five total touchdowns (four passing) against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
A tough matchup is coming in Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles, but the same could have been said for Week 1 against the Saints and “Fitz Magic” was in full force.
A great high could come with a resounding fall and thud against the defending Super Bowl champions next week. But Fitzpatrick seems to be playing with a nothing-to-lose reckless abandon, and he’ll start at least two more games before Winston returns.
Fitzpatrick could keep the starting job even after Winston comes back. If the Buccaneers are somehow 3-0, or even 2-1, it will be hard to make a quarterback change.
Another 400-plus yard, five combined touchdown effort isn’t coming. But peak form Fitzpatrick is fun to watch, and fantasy football is supposed to be fun. In two-quarterback leagues, you can do a lot worse over the next two weeks.
