Alex Smith, QB, Washington Redskins
Smith’s Washington Redskins debut went pretty well, as he complete 21 of 30 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns along with 14 rushing yards in a win over the Arizona Cardinals. But the criminally underappreciated fantasy quarterback is in position to keep it rolling for awhile.
In Week 2 Smith will get the Indianapolis Colts, who had the league’s 28th-ranked pass defense in 2017 and allowed 243 yards and two touchdowns to Andy Dalton in Week 1.
Then Smith will get a favorable-looking matchup against the Green Bay Packers in Week 3, and on the other side of a Week 4 bye he’ll get the New Orleans Saints in Week 5. Ryan Fitzpatrick lit up the Saints for over 400 passing yards and five total touchdowns in Week 1.
Smith is pretty widely owned, but there’s room to add him as a viable low-end QB1/high-end QB2 in leagues where it makes sense. The early bye week could be tricky, but Smith should still be owned in most 12-team leagues.
