The 2018 NFL season is 11 weeks old and time is running out to start picking up people from your fantasy football waiver wire. Every year a no name blows up in Week 1 and ends up being a top-20 fantasy football player over the remainder of the season. So, instead of letting your competition beat you to the punch, use your fantasy football waiver wire to find the next big thing.
Let’s get things started by taking a look at some fantasy football waiver wire tight ends for Week 12.
Jonnu Smith, TE, Tennessee Titans
After scoring a touchdown in the previous two games, Smith set season highs in catches (six) and targets (eight) in Week 11 against the Indianapolis Colts. He now has double-digit PPR points in three straight games.
Marcus Mariota suffered a stinger against the Colts, and while he’ll have an extra day before a Monday night game against the Houston Texans in Week 12 there’s a chance Blaine Gabbert starts. In his previous start this year, Week 2 against the Texans as it were, Smith did not register a target. But Houston is in the bottom half of the league against tight ends (ESPN PPR scoring), and they’ve allowed a touchdown to the position in back-to-back games.
Matchups against the New York Jets (Week 13) and Washington Redskins (Week 16) look tougher than they really are for Smith, and the Jacksonville Jaguars (Week 14) and New York Giants (Week 15) have softened greatly against tight ends recently.
The major concern is who will be under center for the Titans going forward. But a shallow tight end landscape makes Smith worth adding this week.
