Elijiah McGuire, RB, New York Jets
McGuire made his season debut against the Miami Dolphins in Week 9, and stepped right behind Isaiah Crowell with 67 total yards on 10 touches (three catches-five targets). A bad Jets’ offense was put behind the eight-ball by Sam Darnold’s four interceptions, and going forward it’s not likely to suddenly become an explosive unit.
But with the role vacated by the injured Bilal Powell, two matchups against the Buffalo Bills coming (Week 10, Week 14), and game scripts that stand to favor a passing down back (New England Patriots-Week 12, Green Bay Packers-Week 15), McGuire could become a sneaky fantasy producer.
Running backs with a role are always fantasy relevant, and McGuire is that now. Even if he might only realistically be a bench stash, the idea of keeping him away from someone else in your league that’s more desperate for a running back stands to make McGuire a significant waiver wire add this week.
