Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, New England Patriots
Patterson has always been a uniquely talented, if not somewhat limited, player. But over the last two games, with Sony Michel (knee) out, he has operated as a running back with a total of 21 carries for 99 yards and a touchdown.
James White seems to have avoided a serious leg injury after briefly leaving Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers. But Michel’s return to action can’t really be pinpointed, so Patterson could remain in a prominent role until further notice.
Prior to being deployed as a running back essentially in Michel’s place, Patterson scored a touchdown in three of the previous four games (two receiving, one kickoff return). Simply getting the ball into his hands invites explosive plays, and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has found way to use Patterson effectively.
Even in the deepest fantasy leagues, Patterson is a highly speculative add. But there is serious upside if he continues to see the ball in any sort of role, and a fantasy baseball-esque push toward multi-position eligibility can’t be ruled out.
