Derrius Guice, Washington Redskins

Current ADP: 7.02
Sleeper Type: Redemption Story

There is always a story about a running back coming back from injury to make good on his potential. This season, one of those stories will be Guice, who never got to step on field last year after tearing his ACL early in a 2018 preseason game. But he was THE guy everyone wanted to see flourish before he got injured, as he’s a punishing, bruising back who is tailor-made to be a feature back in this league.

But the Redskins made insurance plans last year that have carried over into this season, including Adrian Peterson who salvaged his career and Washington’s run game last season. The team then drafted Bryce Love (also coming off an ACL tear) to crowd the position and the walking wounded, Chris Thompson is always a factor (again, when healthy) to catch the ball out of the backfield. All of which has pushed Guice down the board and without any knowledge of how the timeshare will be split, fantasy owners are throwing a dart when selecting Guice. Plus, how much is Jay Gruden going to baby him back?

This is a rough offense on paper. The receivers are meh, the Case Keenum / Dwayne Haskins situation makes me yawn thinking about it but the most dire situation for the Redskins is getting OT Trent Williams into the clubhouse. Despite all of this, Guice is an attractive bargain when you consider what he brings to the table and even if he splits carries with Peterson, he’s got enough upside to be your fourth back, maybe third.
