WR Ward pleads guilty to reckless driving charge

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward pleaded guilty to reckless driving Wednesday and DUI charges were dropped in connection with a July arrest in DeKalb County, Georgia.

Ward also pleaded “no contest” to a failing to maintain the lane charge as part of a plea agreement. He will serve 12 months probation, 80 hours community service, and pay a $2,000 fine.

State court Judge Stacey Hydrick is allowing Ward to check in via phone or e-mail during his probation to accommodate travel as an NFL player.

The 35-year-old will also have to undergo an alcohol evaluation and participate in a risk reduction program.

Ward was pulled over on July 9 around 2:30 a.m. for failing to stay in his lane and hitting a curb. He failed a field sobriety test and refused to take a Breathalyzer test before being arrested.
