It’s unfortunate (for those who have roster issues) that some leagues still use the final week of the regular season to determine their champion but we’re here with you until the end. The bad part of Week 17 is that many teams rest key players, whether it’s to keep them healthy for the playoffs or if they’re just nursing nagging injuries and will be held out of action to avoid further injury. One player that falls into that category is Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Packers have nothing to play for this week. They’ve already clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC, guaranteeing them home-field advantage regardless of what happens in Week 17. Given those circumstances expect the Packers to rest Rodgers for most of the game with the Detroit Lions this week.
Rodgers isn’t the only big name we’re recommending you consider benching this week. To see who makes our Fantasy Football Week 17 Sit ‘Em list, continue reading.
QUARTERBACKS - SIT ‘EM
Andy Dalton (Cincinnati Bengals) vs. Baltimore
Before throwing for 154 yards with two touchdowns and no turnovers last week, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton had really struggled down the stretch. Before scoring 18 fantasy points against the Arizona Cardinals last week he had three consecutive games with nine or fewer fantasy points. The Bengals face a tough situation this week where they basically need to win to make the playoffs. That kind of pressure will weigh on Dalton, and facing the Baltimore Ravens won’t alleviate any of that pressure either. Dalton did manage to score 15 fantasy points against the Ravens in Week 11. However, consider that he had three interceptions and lost a fumble. If the Bengals need him to throw often this week he could find himself turning the ball over even more. Dalton’s not been the type of guy to have a monster game so he relies on his consistency, and that’s not been good recently either. There is simply too much going against him this week to consider him a good start in any format.

Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens) @ Cincinnati
Much like Dalton, Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco has been fairly consistent this season but has largely avoided having huge performances aside from a pair of 20-point games in the beginning of the season. The Ravens get their work done through a strong running game and their incredible defense. Against the Bengals in Week 11 Flacco threw for 270 yards with two touchdowns and two turnovers. It’s just hard to justify starting a guy when you know his max potential is around 14-15 fantasy points, and could be even less if the Ravens get an early lead and hand the ball off all day. The Bengals are no slouches against quarterbacks either, giving up just 12.9 fantasy points per game to them. There are better quarterback matchups available out there, however Flacco is worth starting consideration in deeper leagues.
Matt Hasselbeck (Tennessee Titans) @ Houston
The fact that the Tennessee Titans still have a shot to make the playoffs is nothing short of amazing. For a team that’s rebuilding in most areas the Titan’s tenacity has been on display this season. Too bad their final game of the season is against the Houston Texans. That’s bad news for Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. Not only has Hasselbeck really struggled in the second half of the season, but the Texans dominated him in Week 7 when these two teams met. In that loss Hasselbeck threw for just 104 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. The Texans are giving up just 10 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks and it would be a surprise if Hasselbeck were to reach that number this week. Even in deep leagues where the options are limited starting Hasselbeck is a big gamble.
