Now it gets down to crunch time. Some leagues may be deciding their championships this week, while the majority of them are in the semifinals. This is the time when you cut the dead weight from your team, regardless of how big or small the name of the player is. For example, cutting Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings or Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray may sound blasphemous after the way they’ve played this season. However, injuries are likely to sideline both until at least the NFL playoffs. You need guys that can produce now, not ones that may return for a meaningless game in two weeks. Of course those aren’t the only two big names you’ll find on this week’s Fantasy Football Cut Them Loose list.
While you are watching to see if your elite players can redeem themselves, you should be checking out our weekly Fantasy Football Waiver Wire - Pick Them Up article so you can start planning on whom to pick up in their place.
QUARTERBACKS—-CUT THEM LOOSE
Dan Orlovsky (Indianapolis Colts)
The fallout of recent season-ending injuries to quarterbacks Matt Schaub, Jay Cutler and Matt Cassel left some owners scrambling at the worst time. Searching for somebody - anybody - that could fill the void left by those injuries, some owners jumped on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Dan Orlovsky after he put up 20 fantasy points against the New England Patriots two weeks ago. Orlovsky had a few good games in a reserve role for the Detroit Lions in 2008. However, any hope Orvlosky could be the fix your team needed was dashed last week when he threw for 136 yards with one touchdown and four turnovers (one interception and three fumbles) in last week’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Colts have tough matchups the next two weeks against the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans, and given how poorly they’ve played on offense this season it’s hard to justify keeping Orlovsky around for any reason.

Matt Moore (Miami Dolphins)
Not much was expected out of Miami Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore after he took over the starting job from the ineffective Chad Henne. Yet, there was Moore leading the Dolphins to wins and posting big fantasy performances against the Kansas City Chiefs (21 points), the Buffalo Bills (18 points) and the Oakland Raiders (18 points). There is a reason Moore is not a starting quarterback in this league and that was on display in last week’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Moore threw for 95 yards with one touchdown and two turnovers. Since that loss Miami coach Tony Sparano was fired. The team is going to be in disarray this week, and even though Moore faces a team - the Bills - that he played well against last time it’s far from a guarantee he’ll do the same this week. He is way too much of a gamble to play.
