As Mark Sanchez sees it, Tim Tebow's arrival will have no bearing on the job security of the New York Jets' current starting quarterback.
“We're adding another player and we're not replacing anybody,” Sanchez said Monday. “I mean, he's here to help us and I'm confident in my abilities. I know the team feels the same way about me. They have belief in me. ... I'm not worried about losing my spot.”
Sanchez's comments came hours after Tebow was formally introduced to a throng of New York media.
“I think we'll have a great relationship and, hopefully, we'll thrive together,” said Tebow of Sanchez.
Tebow captivated the NFL last season with his late-game heroics while playing in Denver, although he became expendable when the Broncos signed Peyton Manning last week. Tebow is expected to see snaps in the Wildcat formation with the Jets.
Sanchez, who inked a three-year contract extension earlier this month, passed for 3,474 yards and 26 touchdowns last season.
