New Orleans Saints 38 vs. Houston Texans 20

  * Drew Brees led the Saints on two scoring drives, including punching in a one-yarder himself.

  * Reggie Bush scored a rushing touchdown, as opposed to his usual receiving TDs.

  * New Orleans produced over 400 yards of total offense.

  * Matt Schaub wasn’t too shabby himself, completing eight of 10 passes for 117 yards.

  * Arian Foster rushed for 28 yards and a touchdown. While he did fumbled, much to the chagrin of Gary Kubiak, Foster came back out on the field in the next drive.

  * Steve Slaton returned kicks and played with the second team. He looks to be a third down running back and specialty player in 2010

New York Jets 9 @ Carolina Panthers 3

  * Matt Moore had another dreadful performance, but in his defense, the Panthers’ passing attack is worthless without Steve Smith.

  * Jimmy Clausen didn’t do anything to help his case in leapfrogging Moore because his night was just as bad as Moore’s.

  * Mark Sanchez didn’t fare any better, completing only 50 percent of his passes for a measly 12 yards.

  * The Jets’ biggest offensive play was a 20-yard run by LaDainian Tomlinson.

  * Carolina’s first-team offense couldn’t garner a first down in four series against the Jets’ second-team defense.

  * DeAngelo Williams had six carries for 26 yards.

Oakland Raiders 32 @ Chicago Bears 17

  * Brian Urlacher injured his calf and made an early exit.

  * Jay Cutler was sacked five times, but found Johnny Knox in the back of the endzone for a score. Keep in mind that the Bears insist they have three starting wide receivers.

  * Cutler finished 7-for-15 for 99 yards with the score.

  * Greg Olsen, the tight end everybody is telling you to avoid, led the Bears in receptions with three for 26 yards. Despite the surge by Knox, Olsen has reportedly been one of Cutler’s favorite targets in practice.

  * Matt Forte exploded for an 89-yard touchdown run. Pay close attention next week to see if that run was a fluke, or if that step he lost last year is back.

  * Jason Campbell finished 10-for-20 for 170 yards with a touchdown run and a pick.

  * Kyle Boller had another strong showing, but still stands no chance of dethroning Campbell.

  * Louis Murphy had three catches for 53 yards. With Chaz Schillens possibly needing knee surgery, Murphy might take his spot as a deep sleeper possibility.

  * Darren McFadden didn’t play, and until he proves himself should never play on your fantasy team.

Dallas Cowboys 16 @ San Diego Chargers 14

  * The most encouraging aspect of Miles Austin’s touchdown from Tony Romo was that it occurred in the red zone. The Cowboys had been stating all offseason they wanted to go to Jason Witten more in that territory in 2010.

  * Despite the touchdown, Romo put up less that desirable totals, but there’s no need to overreact.

  * Ryan Matthews once again went over 50 yards rushing in his limited time in the game. His value is shooting higher than a NASA space shuttle right now. It is important to know, however, that Mike Tolbert has reportedly been getting many goaline carries in camp.

  * Philip Rivers finished 11-for-14 for 125 yards. He connected with Malcom Floyd three times for 47 yards. Get used to this combination; Vincent Jackson isn’t coming back any time soon, if at all.

Detroit Lions 25 @ Denver Broncos 20

  * The Lions might not be so helpless anymore. Matthew Stafford connected with Calvin Johnson for a 20-yard score. That connection could be a theme of this season.

  * Another combination that a lot of people don’t really know about is Kyle Orton and Jabar Gaffney. The two hooked up for six passes for 98 yards.

  * Stafford led the Lions to scores on all four of their first half drives. Don’t underestimate the fantasy football potential of this offense just because of what it’s been in recent years.

  * Tony Scheffler returned to his old stomping grounds, but dropped a pass in the endvzone. His replacement in Denver, Marquez Branson, was able to haul in a touchdown reception from Orton.

  * Orton threw for 177 yards and two scores.

  * Jahvid Best finished with eight carries for 49 yards. In all the Ryan Matthews hype, don’t forget about this explosive rookie.

Green Bay Packers 27 @ Seattle Seahawks 24

  * Aaron Rodgers threw a 56-yard pass to Greg Jennings in the first quarter. While it was Jennings’ only completion of the night, he almost held on to another big pass, but just couldn’t keep his hands on it.

  * Ryan Grant seems to have shaken off his concussion, as he ran five times for 19 yards.

  * Jermichael Finley caught four passes for 48 yards and a touchdown. Finley very well may be this year’s Brent Celek.

  * The Seahawks’ offense was able to move down the field easily against the Packers’ first-team defense.

  * Matt Hasselbeck finished 11-for-15 for 127 yards and a touchdown.

  * Leon Washington looked good running the ball, hitting pay dirt once, and thus has fantasy owners confused as to which running back will really be garnering the fantasy football points in this backfield.

  * Mike Williams, once again, had a solid game playing for his old college coach. It’s still not time to put him on your radar, however keep an eye on him in the next two preseason games.

San Francisco 49ers 15 vs. Minnesota Vikings 10

  * Alex Smith was much more efficient than a week ago, finishing 9-for-13 for 88 yards and led the Niners down the field for an Anthony Dixon touchdown run.

  * Speaking of Dixon, who had 20 rushes for 51 yards with the touchdown, he may end up being Gore’s better handcuff option than Brian Westbrook if he keeps putting up performances like he has in the past two weeks.

  * Ted Ginn and Nate Davis connected on a 60-yard pass, but Ginn dropped two passes before that, and Mike Singletary was not impressed with Davis. San Francisco gave Davis more playing time against the Vikings’ first-team defense to see what he could do. He went 7-for-16 for 114 yards.

  * Adrian Peterson racked up over 40 total yards. Those of you afraid to take AP in PPR leagues should know he notched three receptions in his short time on the field.

  * Brett Favre only played in one series after all Vikings’ fans had to hold their breath when Patrick Willis gave Favre a little pop and sent him to the ground.

Tennessee Titans 24 vs. Arizona Cardinals 10

  * Matt Leinart was flat out awful, wrapping his game with just 28 yards passing (4-for-6). Derek Anderson fared a little better, racking up 109 yards, but he failed on two passes inside the 5-yard line. One of those passes was intended for Steve Breaston.

  * Beanie Wells had six carries for 19 yards. While he remains the back with more upside, Tim Hightower should still be an important part in this offense.

  * Vince Young went 9-for-13 for 128 yards.

  * Nate Washington led the Titans in receiving with 44 receiving yards.

  * Chris Johnson scored a touchdown to go with his 22 yards rushing.

  * LaGarette Blount finally used his aggression in the right way, shoving off tacklers on one of his carries. He finished with a game-high 42 yards on nine carries.
