The NFL is investigating allegations that Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall punched a woman in the face at a New York City nightclub.
The alleged incident occurred at 3:50 a.m. ET Sunday outside the Marquee, a club in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood.
Marshall's attorney, Harvey Steinberg, issued a statement Wednesday denying that Marshall and his friends were involved in the melee.
The Bears acquired Marshall from the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday for a pair of third-round draft picks.
Both teams said they were aware of an incident and decided to move forward with the trade.
The receiver has been arrested for disorderly conduct, drunk driving, and a number of incidents of alleged domestic violence since 2006.
