New York Giants tight end Jake Ballard may be forced to sit out the entire 2012 season.
Jeff Roberts of the Star-Ledger reports that Ballard underwent microfracture surgery in addition to surgery on his torn anterior cruciate ligament. Ballard suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of February's Super Bowl. The microfracture procedure could cost Ballard an additional six weeks or more of recovery time. He is projected to miss at least half of the upcoming NFL season.
The 24-year-old enjoyed a breakout season catching 38 passes for 604 yard and four touchdowns in 2011.
