If you didn’t have success in your fantasy football season you just need to relax. Websites everywhere are trying to keep fantasy football alive with postseason play. In fact, the Bruno Boys would like to invite you and your friends to join our league on Fantasy Football Playoff Challenge, where you can try knocking off the experts. It’s free and easy to play, so why not keep the magic alive for a few more weeks?
Normal fantasy football leagues have come to an end and what a great season it was. We hope that you did well in your league, or leagues, but if you’re still looking for some fantasy football action while the playoffs go on, and you’re looking for some help then look no further because the Bruno Boys will be here throughout the postseason. As such we’ll be releasing our normal weekly position rankings to help you best decide which players to go with in our Fantasy Football Playoff Challenge. To see where this round’s wide receivers rank continue reading the Wild Card Round edition of the Bruno Boys Weekly Wide Receiver Rankings.
1. Miles Austin (Dallas Cowboys) vs. Philadelphia
Austin didn’t score a touchdown in the Week 17 meeting between Dallas and the Philadelphia Eagles, but he did have seven receptions for 90 yards. He’s accumulated at least seven catches for 90 yards in five of his last six games, with four touchdowns. There’s no reason to think he’ll slow down in the playoffs.
Point Projection: 17 points
2. Randy Moss (New England Patriots) vs. Baltimore
Moss caught five passes for 75 yards last week against the Houston Texans, and amazingly, that was his highest yard total since Week 10. But he still scored six touchdowns between then and last week, and with Wes Welker out, even more of the onus to deliver will be on Moss, and betting against him to score – even against the Baltimore Ravens solid eighth-ranked pass defense – isn’t wise.
Point Projection: 16 points
3. Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona Cardinals) vs. Green Bay
Fitzgerald ended his season with four consecutive games of fewer than 50 receiving yards, and in fact he had less than 50 yards in five of his last six contests. Still, he caught a touchdown in each of his final three games, and that’s really where his value lie – especially against the Green Bay Packers, who, despite having a solid pass defense, gave up more touchdowns through the air than all but three other NFL teams.
Point Projection: 15 points
4. DeSean Jackson (Philadelphia Eagles) @ Dallas **CHECK INJURY STATUS**
Jackson had only three receptions for 47 yards in Week 17 against the Dallas Cowboys, but he very well could have had some 10 or more fantasy points. Donovan McNabb missed a W-I-D-E open Jackson on a deep throw early in the game that Jackson easily would have scored on – we’re saying they make that play this week.
Point Projection:14 points
5. Greg Jennings (Green Bay Packers) @ Arizona
Jennings caught only three passes for 29 yards in Green Bay’s season finale against the Arizona Cardinals, but don’t let that be a gauge of how he matches up with them. Jennings had been hot before that, gaining at least 75 yards in three of his previous four contests. Arizona is 23rd in the NFL against the pass, and Jennings should be able to exploit that.
Point Projection: 13 points
6. Anquan Boldin (Arizona Cardinals) vs. Green Bay **CHECK INJURY STATUS**
Boldin led the Cardinals with 38 yards last week as they were annihilated by the Green Bay Packers, and he did so on three catches. That was before he left the game with an injured knee, but early reports are that the injury is not serious. That’s good news for the Cardinals and those looking to employ Boldin, who, before Week 17, had caught five or more passes in each of his last seven games.
Point Projection: 11 points
7. Derrick Mason (Baltimore Ravens) @ New England
Mason only caught a single pass, for 23 yards, against the Oakland Raiders, as Baltimore focused intently on pounding the rock against an Oakland team that cannot stop the run. But Mason has been consistently solid all season (despite dropping a touchdown pass against the Pittsburgh Steelers a couple weeks ago), and we expect that to resume this weekend.
Point Projection: 10 points
8. Julian Edelman (New England Patriots) vs. Baltimore
Wes Welker tore up his knee last week, and that means his slot position goes to Edelman. The rookie stepped in for Welker against the Houston Texans, and caught 10 passes for 103 yards while being targeted a whopping 15 times. He may not find the end zone, but he’s as good as gold in PPR leagues and should have enough yardage to be used as your WR2 in the Bruno Boys Playoff Challenge.
Point Projection: 9 points
9.Donald Driver (Green Bay Packers) @ Arizona
Driver got to 1,000 yard for the season in Week 17 as he picked up 65 yards on six receptions. It was his most catches since Thanksgiving, and the second-highest total of yards since that time. Consider him a solid fantasy football candidate against a mediocre, at best, Arizona Cardinals pass defense. We can’t predict he finds pay dirt this week but you can expect more yardage from the consistent veteran.
Point Projection: 9 points
10. Jeremy Maclin (Philadelphia Eagles) @ Dallas
Like teammate DeSean Jackson, Maclin had three catches for 47 yards last week against the Dallas Cowboys. And also like Jackson, he and Donovan McNabb couldn’t hook up on an opportunity for a long play that may have resulted in a score. Unlike with Jackson, though, Maclin was partially at fault with this play, because McNabb’s pass, while behind Maclin, still went right through the rookie’s hands. We see him having stickier digits this week.
Point Projection: 8 points
11. Jerricho Cotchery (New York Jets) @ Cincinnati
Cotchery led the New York Jets with five receptions in their win over the Cincinnati Bengals, but could manage only 39 receiving yards. He’s clearly established a rapport with rookie signal-caller Mark Sanchez, and he could have had an even better day if the Jets weren’t destroying Cincinnati and simply running all day long (they had 57 rushing attempts). Look for Cincinnati to come out trying to shutdown New York’s run game and for Cotchery to be on the receiving end of even more Sanchez throws.
Point Projection: 7 points
12. Roy Williams (Dallas Cowboys) vs. Philadelphia
Putting Williams this high is a stretch, we realize, but he can’t be this bad for this long, right? Hello? Okay, we understand your skepticism, considering that he had zero catches in Week 17, and a total of two for 18 yards in his last three games. But he’s certainly capable of putting up some solid totals, and he did have five catches for 75 yards in Week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles, so maybe he’s due. At least that’s what we’re telling ourselves.
Point Projection: 7 points
13. Braylon Edwards (New York Jets) @ Cincinnati
Edwards actually led the Jets in targets last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, with seven, but he could only pull down two of those throws for 15 yards. He and Roy Williams are two of the more frustrating fantasy football wideouts to project, because they’re capable of so much, yet deliver so inconsistently.
Point Projection: 6 points
14. Chad Ochocinco (Cincinnati Bengals) vs. New York Jets **CHECK INJURY STATUS**
Ochocinco injured his knee during the Bengals’ game against the New York Jets last week, and didn’t catch any passes in the game, though he was hardly the only Cincinnati player with that distinction. Darrelle Revis is the anti-fantasy wide receiver, but we still expect marginal production from the Ocho if he’s healthy.
Point Projection: 5 points
15. James Jones (Green Bay Packers) @ Arizona
Jones is a bit of a wildcard in this contest, because his big-play ability means he’s one snap away from going the distance at all times. And with Arizona’s relative struggles against the pass, and their concentration devoted mostly to Greg Jennings and Donald Driver, Jones may surprise some people.
Point Projection: 5 points
16. Laveranues Coles (Cincinnati Bengals) vs. NY Jets
The Bengals completed a total of four passes last week against the New York Jets, and three of those went to Coles (for 19 yards). He didn’t catch a touchdown for the first time in two games, but it’s hard to know if the Bengals were really even trying out there.
Point Projection: 4 points
17. Patrick Crayton (Dallas Cowboys) vs. Philadelphia
With Roy Williams doing … whatever it is he’s doing on the football field, Crayton stepped up in Week 17, with four receptions for 99 yards and one touchdown. For the most part, however, he’s still been the third (or fourth) wheel in Dallas’ passing offense and you can’t go into your postseason challenge relying on him to produce..
Point Projection: 4 points
18. Sam Aiken (New England Patriots) vs. Baltimore
Aiken has not put up big numbers of late – just three receptions for 16 yards over his last two games – but opportunity is knocking for him now that Wes Welker went down. As we saw a few times this season, Aiken is completely capable of posting some decent numbers, but the heavy lifting will likely be left to Randy Moss and Julian Edelman in this game.
Point Projection: 4 points
19. Jason Avant (Philadelphia Eagles) @ Dallas
Avant’s production has gone down in each of his recent games, from three catches in Week 15, to two in Week 16, to one last week, and his respective yardage total has ebbed as well, from 44 to 25 to eight. He’ll have a big game every now and again, but don’t expect that to happen this week against the Dallas Cowboys.
Point Projection: 3 points
20. Early Doucet (Arizona Cardinals) vs. Green Bay
As Steve Breaston has fallen, Doucet has risen. Not that he’s any type of super-contributor, but he led the Cardinals with four receptions last week (while gaining 28 yards), and he had at least 40 receiving yards twice in the season’s final four weeks.
Point Projection: 3 points
21. Steve Breaston (Arizona Cardinals) vs. Green Bay
Breaston has become an afterthought to most fantasy football owners, and there’s good reason for that – he had at least 40 receiving yards just once over the season’s final seven weeks. That did not include last week against the Green Bay Packers, as he had just 16 yards in three receptions in the game.
Point Projection: 3 points
22.Kelley Washington (Baltimore Ravens) @ New England
Essentially, Washington lands here because someone other than Derrick Mason has to catch a pass every once in a while. He had two last week, for all of seven yards, and hasn’t had at least 50 yards since Week 8. Translation: keep your expectations low.
Point Projection: 2 points
23. Brad Smith (NY Jets) @ Cincinnati
Smith led all Jets wideouts in fantasy football points last week, despite not catching a single pass. That’s because he ran for 92 yards and one score on four carries. He’s had multiple carries in three of his last four games, and that’s where he’ll pick up his points, instead of through the air.
Point Projection: 2 points
24. Jordy Nelson (Green Bay Packers) @ Arizona
Nelson has battled some injuries this season and simply hasn’t been all that effective. However, as we saw last week with his 51-yard grab against the Arizona Cardinals, he can still make plays. The real worry is about the opportunities, or lack thereof, that he’ll get.
Point Projection: 2 points
25. Andre Caldwell (Cincinnati Bengals) vs. NY Jets
Caldwell was tied for the team-high in targets last week for the New York Jets with four, but like so many of his teammates, he failed to catch a pass. New York has the No. 1 pass defense in football, so don’t look to Caldwell for much of anything.
Point Projection: 1 point
