David Clowney (New York Jets)

With the trade of Chansi Stuckey to the Cleveland Browns, the New York Jets are looking for somebody to step up at the third receiver spot and the first opportunity has been given to David Clowney. In last week’s win over Oakland, Clowney did well as he caught four passes for 79 yards and a touchdown. Braylon Edwards and Jerricho Cotchery are still ahead of Clowney on the depth chart yet Cotcherys has been suffering a nagging injury and Edwards caught just one pass in Week 7. For now Clowney should only be considered in deeper leagues.

Devin Hester (Chicago Bears)

Devin Hester of the Chicago Bears has been playing pretty well as a receiver this season, no doubt in part to the addition of quarterback Jay Cutler, and in the last two weeks he’s caught 14 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown. In last week’s blowout loss to the Cincinnati Bengals he had eight receptions for 101 yards and a score, marking the first time he’s gone over the 100-yard receiving mark in his career. Hester isn’t a complete receiver yet so there will be some inconsistency from week to week. Still, he appears to be making strides at the position and his ability to take any pass to the house makes him an option in standard and deeper leagues, if available.

TIGHT ENDS — PICK THEM UP

Vernon Davis (San Francisco 49ers)

It appears that 49ers head coach Mike Singletary has provided just the kick in the butt that tight end Vernon Davis needed. Davis is on his way to set single-season records in most categories and last week in a loss to the Houston Texans he had seven catches for 93 yards and three touchdowns. Davis is an amazing talent so it’s no surprise to see him do well, however considering the struggles of the San Francisco passing game you can expect Davis to be a bit Jekyll and Hyde. He would make for an solid pickup in any league provided you can deal with his ups and downs from week to week.

TEAM DEFENSE — PICK THEM UP

Denver Broncos D/ST

The Denver Broncos defense is on this list because for some reason they are still available in about 10-15 percent of standard leagues. For what reason is unknown but nonetheless if this unit is still available in your league then you should pick it up. The Broncos defense is the top one in fantasy football and even though they had yielded a fair amount of points the last few week the Broncos are still very good at creating turnovers. If available in your league then you should pick them up right away.

New Orleans Saints D/ST

Similar the Broncos, the New Orleans Saints defense has been one of the top units in fantasy football this season yet it is still available in around 20-30 percent of standard leagues. The Saints have 13 interceptions, five fumble recoveries and four defensive touchdowns in six games. If they are available in your league then you should pick up the New Orleans defense right away because they have produced at a high level against some solid competition.

Buffalo Bills D/ST

For as bad as the Buffalo Bills have been this season their defense has actually been pretty good. The last three weeks they’ve allowed an average of 9.3 points per game and they picked off 10 passes. With upcoming games against bad offenses like the Tennessee Titans, the New York Jets and the Kansas City Chiefs there is some potential for big games out of the Bills defense. You could pick them up to play matchups with or just to have around on your team as so far they’ve been a top-10 fantasy football defense.
