WIDE RECEIVERS — CUT THEM LOOSE

Kevin Walter (Houston Texans)

After missing the Houston Texans’ first two games with a hamstring injury, Walter torched the Jacksonville Jaguars for 96 receiving yards and a touchdown in Week 3, but it’s been downhill since. Over the past four games, Walter has been overlooked in a high powered Texans’ offense as the veteran wide out has hauled in just 11 receptions for 136 receiving yards since Week 3. His latest effort, three receptions for 29 yards, marks the third straight game in which Walter has failed to reach 40 receiving yards, and with quarterback Matt Schaub favoring Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels, it’s time to cut bait on the once valuable possession receiver.

Pierre Garcon (Indianapolis Colts)

The presence of Garcon on the fantasy football scene was short lived. The second year receiver had a three week stretch in which he combined for 183 receiving yards and two touchdowns (31 fantasy points) but has just four receptions for 33 receiving yards over the last two games. With rookie wide out Austin Collie emerging as a reliable third option in the Colts passing game (behind Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark) and Anthony Gonzalez close to returning from an knee injury, it’s Garcon who is soon to be the odd man out in an high powered Indianapolis offense. The time is now to dump Garcon for an option who will play a bigger role in their teams respective offense.

TIGHT ENDS — CUT THEM LOOSE

Dustin Keller (New York Jets)

In 2008, with Brett Favre under center in New York, Keller became an immediate fantasy football option at the tight end position and put together a rookie season in which he had 48 receptions, 535 yards and three touchdowns. With Favre out of town and rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez leading the Jets things haven’t gone as planned for Keller and those who invested in him as a low end TE1. Keller started the season with seven receptions, 116 receiving yards and a touchdown over the first two games but the second year tight end has been non existent in an inconsistent Jets passing attack. Since Week 2, Keller has just eight receptions for 97 yards and his eight fantasy points have done nothing but disappoint his fantasy football owners. With Sanchez going through his expected rookie struggles and the Jets’ making a strong commitment to running the football it’s safe to say you can part ways with Keller. Entering Week 7, Keller ranked 21st at the TE position and his two point outing against the Oakland Raiders did nothing to increase his stock.
