WIDE RECEIVERS – START ‘EM

Greg Jennings (Green Bay Packers) vs. Minnesota

We understand your potential hatred for a WR that you drafted in rounds 2-3 and has failed miserably as a fantasy provider. For a WR 1, you were probably expecting more than 43rd among NFL WRs with 38 targets through 6 games. The Packers will most likely come out with some conviction against a Vikings team coming off their first loss of the season, and Jennings will have to be involved for the Packers to have a chance. With RB Ryan Grant expected to struggle against the tough front of the Vikes, Rodgers and the Pack could all put up some good fantasy statistics.

Steve Smith (Carolina Panthers) @ Arizona

Against an mediocre Cardinals pass defense (with an awful NFL QB), Steve Smith, the Carolina version, could do his best Steve Smith impression this weekend. We always assumed the opposite when talking about Steve Smith’s, but while you have sat around and waited for him to post great numbers, you have been getting awful productivity. Smith is still a super-talented WR, so he has to turn it around sooner or later. Look for him to grab 100 yards at the least, but he could definitely find paydirt against the Cardinals and their hit or miss pass defense.

Eddie Royal (Denver Broncos) @ Baltimore

Another preseason darling (sense a style this week?), Royal has failed to prove to fantasy owners that he can be the Broncos’ version of Wes Welker. Coming off a bye, Eddie Royal may start finding the ball in his hands more often. If he can log 6-8 catches like fantasy owners were hoping for, he can definitely be a possession receiver that fantasy owners are craving. Baltimore’s pass defense isn’t bad, but considering their rush defense is still top 10, Kyle Orton may be forced to throw more than average.

TIGHT ENDS – START ‘EM

Brandon Pettigrew (Detroit Lions) vs. St. Louis

This is the week that the 1st round pick pays dividends. While he hasn’t been much (any) of a fantasy factor this season, we think that he could see more passes with the questionability of star WR Calvin Johnson. Pettigrew is a big target and could definitely come up big for fantasy owners stressing for a TE in week 8. This is for the deepest leagues.

KICKERS – START ‘EM

Robbie Gould (Chicago Bears) vs. Cleveland

Chicago may not struggle to punch the football in the end zone in week 8, so Gould may not be kicking 3-4 FGs. But at the same time, if they score 4 TDs and attempt 2 FGs, a 10 point week is not far-fetched. While we typically don’t like kickers in Chicago, it is not supposed to be windy, and it looks like a clear Sunday afternoon, so start/pick up Robbie, and find fantasy Gould in week 8.

DEFENSES – START ‘EM

Chicago Bears D/ST vs. Cleveland

If you’re a Bears fan you have loved reading this article. The Browns have a bottom 3 QB (Is Derek Anderson worse than JaMarcus Russell or Jake Delhomme this season? Let’s throw Kerry Collins into that mix too), a weak offensive line, no true playmaker other than KR/RB/WR/QB Josh Cribbs, so the Bears D/ST could be ridiculous this weekend. With a strong pass rush, they could force big mistakes for Derek Anderson, and their Special Teams play with Johnny Knox and Devin Hester could provide a ST TD, which is where the fantasy money is.
