16. Dustin Keller (New York Jets) vs. Miami

Keller’s sophomore season started off solidly enough with the Jets’ tight end tallying 9 and 8 fantasy points in the first two weeks. Since then it’s been derailed as Keller has just 8 fantasy points in the five games since. Don’t expect a rebirth any time soon, even with the Dolphins allowing opposing tight ends 8.8 fantasy points. After all, the Jets’ tight ends caught zero passes for zero yards when these two teams met earlier this season.
Point Projection: 4 points

17. Kevin Boss (New York Giants) @ Philadelphia

Boss hasn’t been part of the passing attack for the New York Giants all season long with his highest reception total in any one game being just four. In fact, Boss has just 196 receiving yards on the year and no end zone trips. Despite the Eagles struggling against the tight end position they still are the 9th ranked pass defense and it’s tough to project Boss’ numbers improve this week.
Point Projection: 4 points

18. Donald Lee (Green Bay Packers) vs. Minnesota

With Jermichael Finley nursing a knee sprain, Lee could be thrust into a larger role this coming weekend. That fact along with a match-up against the Vikings, who allow opposing tight ends 10.4 fantasy points a contest, Lee could be a sneaky bye week play. Heath Miller owners, we’re looking at you.
Point Projection: 4 points

19. Jeff King (Carolina Panthers) @ Arizona

If you’re looking for a tight end out of the top-15, you’re desperate and simply praying for points. Well, King is one of those guys who can maybe answer your prayers. He’s not going to rack up the yardage as his highest output all season is 38 yards, but he can get you a cheap six, something he did in week 5 & week 6.
Point Projection: 4 points

20. Anthony Fasano (Miami Dolphins) @ New York Jets

Prior to week 5, Fasano was sporting negative fantasy points on the season. Since then, he has managed 11 fantasy points thanks in large part to a 9-point performance against the Jets in week 5. So, why don’t we expect a repeat? Mainly because the only TD the Jets have given up to the tight end was the one Fasano scored in week 5.
Point Projection: 3 points

21. Randy McMichael (St. Louis Rams) @ Detroit

McMichael has a solid match-up against a Detroit Lions defense that allows 258 passing yards per game and has surrendered 17 passing touchdowns in just six games. The problem is McMichael has been more of a possession tight end for the Rams while Daniel Fells has seen more opportunity in the red zone. Expect a decent yardage afternoon but not much else from the eight year veteran out of Georgia.
Point Projection: 3 points

22. Marcedes Lewis (Jacksonville Jaguars) @ Tennessee

In a Week 4 victory over the Tennessee Titans, Lewis’ had his best game of the season. His 76 receiving yards and a touchdown led to 13 fantasy points and thousands of owners’ snatching off their leagues waiver wire. However, he has just four receptions and 18 receiving yards since and despite the match-up being well you just never know which Jaguars’ offense is going to show up. Consider Lewis’ a boom or bust play if you have the guts to start him.
Point Projection: 3 points

23. Dante Rosario (Carolina Panthers) @ Arizona

In Week 7 Rosario had three receptions for 35 receiving yards but the fact that he receives few targets in a run first offense is not the recipe for success. Expect a few receptions from Rosario but the majority of the time Carolina is in the goalline they turn to fellow tight end Jeff King.
Point Projection: 2 points

24. Bo Scaife (Tennessee Titans) vs. Jacksonville

After having a solid 2008 campaign Scaife has dropped back down to reality in 2009. With the Titans offense struggling to find an identity Scaife has been hit or miss to date and through four games played he is averaging just 29.5 receiving yards per game and has zero touchdowns. In a Week 4 meeting against the Jacksonville Jaguars Scaife had two fantasy points and his owners’ should expect much of the same in Week 8.
Point Projection: 2 points

25. Daniel Fells (St. Louis Rams) @ Detroit

On paper this is a great play because it’s well documented that the Detroit Lions struggle against the pass but starting Fells at the tight end position come with a lot of risk. Since scoring two touchdowns and 15 fantasy points in Week 3, Fells has just four fantasy points in four games and even against the lowly Lions you are better off staying away from this inconsistent option.
Point Projection: 2 points

26. Robert Royal (Cleveland Browns) @ Chicago  **CHECK INJURY STATUS**

The last time Robert Royal caught a pass and recorded a fantasy point was in Week 4 against the Cincinnati Bengals so if you plan on using him in Week 8 we feel sorry for you. On top of that he is battling a few nagging injuries that have kept him out of practice this week and could linger into this weekend.
Point Projection: 2 points

27. Desmond Clark (Chicago Bears) vs. Cleveland

Clark has been used more as an extra blocker this season but over the past two weeks the veteran tight end has six receptions and 46 receiving yards. These aren’t fantasy worthy statistics but if Clark can continue to catch a consistent amount of football it could lead to more opportunity as the season progresses. Don’t start Clark but monitor the situation if you are in a 16+ team league.
Point Projection: 2 points

28. Shawn Nelson (Buffalo Bills) @ Houston  **CHECK INJURY STATUS**

Nelson is battling from an illness that forced him to miss Week 7 and has kept him out of practice through Wednesday of this week. Even if he gets healthy by Sunday you are better off staying away from all Buffalo Bills receivers, especially ones who play tight end. Since scoring a touchdown in Week 1, Nelson has just four receptions and four fantasy points.
Point Projection: 1 point

29. Ben Patrick (Arizona Cardinals) vs. Carolina

Since returning from suspension Patrick has just three receptions for 24 receiving yards and despite the Cardinals having a dynamic passing attack they don’t target the tight end position enough to rely on them from a fantasy football standpoint.
Point Projection: 1 point

30. Brandon Pettigrew (Detroit Lions) vs. St. Louis

No doubt about it Pettigrew is going to be a above average NFL tight end but the odds of that happening this year are slim to none. The match-up against St. Louis is a good one but Pettigrew has been an afterthought in a mediocre passing game and we can’t suggest playing him based on solely match-up.
Point Projection: 1 point
