WIDE RECEIVERS — CUT THEM LOOSE

Percy Harvin (Minnesota Vikings)

Harvin’s fantasy career started off strong as the Vikings’ rookie wide receiver posted 11 fantasy points in each of the first three weeks of the 2009 season; however, since then, the rookie’s roll has been slowed. In fact, Harvin has only tallied 10 combined fantasy points in the Vikings’ last three games. Take away the 101-yard kickoff return he had against the 49ers in week 3, and Harvin would have just 15 fantasy points over the last four weeks. So, what’s happened? Well, Brett Favre is growing more comfortable with his other weapons, specifically Sidney Rice, Visanthe Shiancoe, and Bernard Berrian, which is taking away from Harvin’s opportunities. Add that fact to a bum shoulder that Harvin reinjured against the Ravens, and while we’re not recommending you completely cut ties with the wide out just yet, it is time to place him at the bottom of fantasy WR depth charts and monitor his play moving forward.

Terrell Owens (Buffalo Bills)

Cutting a guy with the reputation of Terrell Owens is ballsy, but at this point and time, it also may be smart. With his 1 point outing against the Jets on Sunday, Owens has now gone four out of six games with 4 points or less. Plain and simply, his talents are not meshing well with his new team. Unless Owens gets traded before the deadline, his potential for 2009 seems bleak. Not only is the Bills’ offense in shambles, but the weather in Buffalo moving forward is not going to be pleasant passing weather. T.O., who had a streak of three straight seasons with 1,000+ receiving yards and 10+ TDs, will be hard pressed to keep the streak going. Through 6 games, he has just 215 receiving yards and 1 TD. Before simply cutting Owens, see if you can use his past reputation to swing any sort of deal for even a flex play option.

Justin Gage (Tennessee Titans)

Gage has found it difficult to match the 13 fantasy points he posted in week 1. In fact, Gage hasn’t reached that number even if you add up all of his outings since then. Heck, he isn’t even half way there as Gage has just 6 fantasy points since Week 2. So, why is he owned in over a quarter of fantasy leagues? The Bruno Boys are completely baffled, which is why, we’re doing our part to ensure this changes. If you own Gage, please, please, please cut him now.

TIGHT ENDS — CUT THEM LOOSE

Kevin Boss (New York Giants)

Boss was able to play in week 6 despite a banged up ankle that kept him out of week 5, but in finishing with just 1 fantasy point, his owners may have preferred he rested the ankle once again. Boss showed promise in 2008, hauling in 33 passes for 368 yards and 6 TDs, and many thought his role would expand in 2009 with both Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer departing in the off-season. However, with the Giants’ crop of young wide receivers stepping up, Boss’ service haven’t been needed as much as many thought. As a result, his largest fantasy output this season is a mere 6 fantasy points. With a ton of tight ends raising their game for 2009, Boss can be sent packing from your roster.
