You may find that the week five weekly waiver article below is a bit boring this week. We were able to round up nine players for this week’s edition but most are good options in deep leagues of for those custom leagues that have ridiculously large benches. Truth be told most of the players that played well this week from a fantasy perspective are the ones that are already owned in leagues. Then are others, such as the Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints defenses that are still available in a lot of regular-sized leagues and they shouldn’t be. For all of this week’s selections for the weekly waiver article, just continue on reading below.
Note: If you’re debating on who to drop to pick these guys up, you should be checking out the Bruno Boys’ article, Fantasy Football Week 6 Waiver Wire - Cut Them Loose and see if anyone on your roster is a Bruno Boys’ recommendation to drop. And, remember you can always visit our forums to get your questions answered about waiver wire candidates, players to drop or anything at all related to fantasy football.
QUARTERBACKS — PICK THEM UP
Daunte Culpepper (Detroit Lions)
It’s tough to advise picking up a Detroit Lions quarterback, especially one like Daunte Culpepper who is turnover and sack prone. However he did OK in his first in a close loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers as he was 23-for-37 for 282 yards with one touchdown and one interception. But Culpepper is experienced and we’ve seen him do great things before, which is why you can’t completely ignore him. The Lions take on the Green Bay Packers this week who do a good job of forcing turnovers, but have only recorded five sacks in four games while allowing nine passing touchdowns. If rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford’s injury is more serious then first thought, after a bye in Week 7 the Lions get the St. Louis Rams in Week 8, which should be a high scoring affair. For now Culpepper should only be considered in very deep leagues as a spot starter.
RUNNING BACKS — PICK THEM UP
Michael Bush (Oakland Raiders)
With starter Darren McFadden out backup running backs Michael Bush and Justin Fargas will get their chances to carry the ball for the Oakland Raiders. Bush is a power guy who’s best between the tackles and he is hard to take down. In the loss to the New York Giants, Bush gained just 37 yards on 12 carries but he did have a touchdown. Bush will continue to see about 15 carries a week until McFadden returns and is a better play than Fargas. Still, given how poor Oakland’s offense is Bush should only be considered in deeper leagues.
Jamaal Charles (Kansas City Chiefs)
The Kansas City Chiefs are struggling on offense there’s not much doubt about that. Because of that they’re looking to get some other players involved, as evidenced by the touchdown pass to Mike Vrabel in the overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Backup running back Jamaal Charles is one of those guys who the Chiefs are going to look to get more involved in the offense, possibly in a similar way that Leon Washington has been used by the New York Jets the last couple years. Charles only rushed for nine yards on three carries against Dallas but he also caught five passes for 54 yards. For now he remains a guy to look at only in deep leagues or to stash on your bench if you can but it wouldn’t be surprising if he was getting 10-15 touches on the football from here on out.
Sammy Morris (New England Patriots)
With Fred Taylor out indefinitely because of ankle surgery and Laurence Maroney underperforming, the New England Patriots have gone to their tried-and-tested running back Sammy Morris. Morris had 17 carries for 68 yards and also caught two passes for 39 yards. You can expect the carries to continue to come for Morris because head coach Bill Belichick trusts him and the Patriots need somebody who can run the ball. The problem for Morris is that he’s more of a guy that’s effective between the 20s and you can expect New England to use the passing game more inside the red zone, but here’s a running back with a guaranteed at least 15 touches every game for the foreseeable future.

Gang,
Sorry about the article not appearing when we first published it last night. It looks like it only took our formatting and not the content initially. However, everything should be fine now and if you are having a problem viewing it please let us.
Thanks and hope everyone dominated in Week 5.

Willy,
At the rate the Indy offense is going it wouldn’t hurt to have Austin Collie but in all reality you are going to play Reggie Wayne and DeSean Jackson every week and Mike Sims-Walker/Kevin Walter.
It’s not that I don’t think Collie is going to produce it’s just that Wayne and Clark are must starts each week and do you really want to have three receivers from the same team? It likely won’t happen but what if the Colts somehow get shutdown one week while you are starting all three. Plus, you have to assume that when Anthony Gonzalez comes back he will take away some targets from Collie.
Now if you are able to get Collie and dump a player that isn’t worth a roster spot that could be wise. Wise for the simple fact that you are preventing a needy owner getting a hot wide out in Collie.
Let us know,

Willy,
Grab Ahmad Bradshaw now! he is outperforming his counterpart Brandon Jacobs and his role in the offense is now identified. Plus. he doesn’t have a bye until Week 10 so you don’t have to worry about mixing and matching your lineup around bye weeks.
Let us know if you get Bradshaw and if you do congrats on snagging a low-end RB2 / high-end RB3 off of waivers.

Bruno,
I have R Wayne, Colston, Ochocinco, B Marshall and Edwards at WR. I have M Turner, Barber, McGahee, L White and W Parker at RB. I need another RB but no one is biting on trade offers.
I have had one trade offer of R Bush and A Gates for McGahee and Edwards…This hurts my RB situation more. Should I Take this trade and pick up S Morris off waivers?

Bruno:
Need back up in PPR league for RB (A Peterson, Westbrook, A Bradshaw, M Lynch and J Harrison)
Thinking of dropping Harrison and picking up Morris who is available. I’m last in my league so I can have him.
